Re: How to promote rollerskiing?

Roller skiing is not just dangerous, but expensive: Skis $200 Bindings $100 Mounting $20 Boots $250 Poles $100 Tips $20 Helmet $50 Knee pads $20 Gloves 15 That's pushing $700! If classic wheel sets are around $100, and seem to be required way too often. (I think I paid $320 for my classic skis, my e...

Re: Start skate skiing?

First: only complete reprobates, and Bolsheviks prefer skating. Real men stride. But, if you insist (and for some reason, you don't care what I think) I've got a few completely unqualified tips. Skate only roller skis are the only way to go; and you must use stiff skate boots, classic boots simply a...

Rowers

Any of you using a rower?
I'm thinking: about the same $ as a new pair of skis, which, generally, seems to be of very little help.
I'm thinking of a Concept2, same company that sells the ski erg.

Dead Last at Seefield.

I hung around after the broadcast of the men's 15 @ Seefield. (Thanks Vinnie!) The last few moments of the program focused on the absolute last place guy. He was off the pace by a ton, but to my eye, he had excellent technique, good tempo, and it looked like he had some power too. Can anyone explain...

It's not the skis; your weight is too far back. Bend those knees.

Re: Diggins at Davos?

I'm not convinced. I think she needs to get her arms up in front of her face and out of the slip stream. I wouldn't be surprised if the Norwegian tuck position was developed in a wind tunnel. Also, I wonder about her supposed "sloppy technique;" maybe her head wobbles back and forth a bit ...

Re: What made you start XC skiing?

I was 35, grossly over weight, smoking 3 packs a day, and having daily chest pains. The doc insisted that I quit smoking, lose weight and exercise. I was OK with losing weight and quitting smoking, but there was no way I was going to jog, or even walk further than to the fridge for another beer. But...

Re: Rollerski Length

In my completely unqualified opinion, longer is better. This is based on pretty much nothing but the musings of a aging brain, but I use Rollerskishop's pursuits ( kinda short) and the newer Roillerskishop skis (the ones with the red wire suspension forks) which are longer: the longer skis are much ...

Re: Is V2 necessarily more difficult?

So for us Americans: gear one is herringbone skate; gear two is V1; gear three is V2; gear four is V2 alternate; gear five is free skate? NO wait! sorry, I think I've got it backwards. I've got forwards? No just gear three is V1 alternate? Wait, I'm really getting confused! Ah, crap just forget it! ...
