Re: Any good combi ski?

Tim Kelley suggests Fischer RCR Vasa Classics/SCS Classics or equivalent from other brands, 5 cm shorter than normal classics and ski poles between skate and classic length. It's not what he'd use racing short races on groomed track, but plenty good enough for fun on his long (often 30-60 mile) day ...

Re: Technique: Why are skate poles longer?

Science isn't how the pole lengths were determined. It was by trial and error and how the different lengths feel. There have been trends, such as super long poles when skating was new that were reduced later. But those trends haven't been determined by science. Maybe they have been backed up by scie...

Re: How to promote rollerskiing?

I've never had a serious injury road or mountain biking. Or any other sport for that matter to include climbing. Also, not wanting to get into a '90s style flame war on helmets, but I generally don't wear one mountain biking. The way I ride (tame), I'm more likely to hit my head while snow skiing (a...

Re: How to promote rollerskiing?

I agree with John. Rollerskiing is necessary for higher level racers, and fine for others that enjoy it. I have ski raced for fun at a reasonably fast local level, but ski in snow only. I have even at times given up my main sport (running) for skiing only for up to 6 months a year, but won't rollers...

Re: Technique: Why are skate poles longer?

Jeff, this is kind of weird. I know you ski. Can't you feel the need for the difference yourself? What pole lengths do you use and how tall are you? How do those poles feel to you while doing classic and skate?

https://www.salomon.com/us/product/skiathlon-pilot.html There used to be a high end version (S-Lab carbon) too, which you might be able to find used. http://nordicsportsusa.blogspot.com/2008/10/my-new-salomon-cross-country-nordic-ski.html The Pilot boots fit Profil bindings. My boots are all Pilot a...

Re: FORCED striding in classic events?

I found this: http://waldenxc.ca/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/Classic-technique-for-posting.pdf When it is planned to use zones, the organizer must inform the athletes and team leaders of this the day before (TCM and/or web/notice board/SMS etc). • The information should say the following: "The c...

Re: Start skate skiing?

If you're on a budget, I'd check out used skis and boots at Play it Again Sports or other used outdoor gear/mountaineering store. Or craigslist. I saw some decent looking old races skis and boots at my local used gear store, not that I was looking (was selling instead). The most important quality of...

Re: FORCED striding in classic events?

Earlier this season I posted about being surprised by seeing striding on such flat terrain coming in to the finish of Davos, maybe it was. Maybe someone even said "zone" but I didn't appreciate what they meant then. It was Planica in the thread you started thinking the location was Seefel...

Re: Olympics Women's Team Sprint - final meters

but Randall's showing was maybe even more impressive as she's been out of it for a while. Kikkan was 3rd in a World Cup skate sprint in December, but then had an injury, foot pain while skating. By the 4x5K relay, she was definitely on form. Her skate leg there just about matched Jessie's, 12:12.9 ...

Re: Incredible race by Simen Hegstad Krüger

This forum is so dead, we shouldn't discourage taking about the races. I guess putting spoiler in the header makes sense if you remember, but how hard is it to stay away from a forum that gets only a handful of posts per day? I'm all for staying away if you haven't seen a race yet. It would be great...

Re: Seefeld: striding on the flats to the finish?

You mean Planica? There was only freestyle at Seefeld. The hill in the video below has a mix. Most skiers are striding, but the faster skiers like Klæbo double pole. If there is not a mix of techniques, and everyone is striding, then maybe you saw a technique zone, where skiers must stride or herrin...

Re: older Fischer waxable skis, Weston MA

I got some almost unused Fischer RCS classic skis with Profil bindings at a ski swap last year. They actually didn't sell at the swap, even though they were priced at only $35. I only saw them because I wandered in at the end of the swap to see if my own skis had sold. They are a perfect flex for me...
