Re: Hot waxing outdoors in Winter?

You're fine to do that. Just make sure that your iron's wattage is high enough to maintain temperature when outdoors.

Re: Fischer Twin Skin

Were you using the black insert (shorter hair) or the yellow insert (longer hair) on the RC skins? Mine have a nice fast glide, but I'm at the bottom of the weight range. If you're at the top of the weight range, you could either go with a stiffer ski and keep the yellow insert, or change to the bla...

Re: Difference between skate & classic BINDINGS?

You're right that the boots will still connect, the bindings differ in their stiffness though. If you're using Salomon pilot, you'd need a different biding to achieve the appropriate flex. If you're using NNN, profil or propulse, you can simple change the flex-bit. This flex will also change between...

Re: Backpack

I rarely use a backpack, but when I do, I like my little Deuter bag that has great back ventilation.

Re: Skate ski length choice: short hard vs long soft

A general rule that serves as a starting point for ski and pole lengths: Classic skis: Body length x 1.15 Classic poles: Body length x 0.85 Skate skis: Body length x 1.10 Skate poles: Body length x 0.90 This gives for a skier 176 cm tall skate skis that are 193.6 cm. If the skis you are interested ...

Re: Question About Pole Length: diagonal stride vs double po

It depends on what you're looking for. As mentioned before, a shorter pole length will feel more similar to classic skiing (maybe slightly taller to account for being higher-up on your roller-skis). If you're looking for speed, you can go with a longer pole similar to skate for more power, or switch...

Re: Skate ski length choice: short hard vs long soft

That's a little off, since 192-195 is the longest ski many manufacturers make! (Unless you're a very high level skier). More important is the camber rating, which should be 90-100% of body weight for a recreational skier and 100-110% for a higher performance skier. Camber stiffness is chosen accord...

I would always just wear Craft Gunde shorts underneath and that was it - even down to -40 C. I would wear a warm-up suit before the race and whip it off right before starting.

Re: Roller skis

I always found tire or wheel compound justified the speed of the ski's. Bearings not so much. That will affect the speed of the skis, but if you take Elpex for instance, they make multiple roller-ski's that all look the same, but the prices differ quite drastically due to the bearings. For $250 you...

Re: Comparing BC bindings: SNS or NNN?

That is a good point, especially if Salomon decides to drop the line. With that said, Salomon makes much more rugged boots than are available for NNN BC. The XAdv 8 (and even the 6) are preferable to NNN BC if you need the extra ankle support, short of moving to AT or tele equipment. On another note...

Re: Does XC prevent lopsidedness?

I wouldn't say it's uncommon to have muscles smaller on your less dominant side. If you camber test left and right specific skis after a few years of use, you'll notice the ski that's on the dominant side will have a much softer camber. My right arm is much larger than my left for instance even thou...

Re: Anyone have any older NNN-2 manual bindings to sell?

Sounds good. I really don't see many NNN bindings on eBay. They come up a couple times a winter at $25. Maybe Siggi's will have em cheaper in Sept -- I'd get a few. None of my skis yet have plates. I haven't checked ebay for bindings in a couple years, so I didn't realize there weren't many anymore...

Re: Comparing BC bindings: SNS or NNN?

There isn't enough difference to base your boot decision on. Go with the boot that fits best. There are boots for SNS BC? I would wonder why the binding exists if there are no boots for it! The XAdventure series fit that binding, although that line of skis, boots and bindings appear to be o...
