Re: Hi from switzerland

Good stuff :-) I can see a few tracks in the Czech Republic there as well. We just started our season this last week in Jeseniky mountains, a bit of the track is there but its missing a 12km cross country track which was groomed and Ive spent the last week going up and down. Ill add some throughout ...

Re: top skate skiing destinations in Europe?

Im not sure about your budget but Switzerland is out of mine. Another option, probably a bit cheaper is Lapland in Finland. Couple of years ago we stayed on a lake Sarkijarvi near a town called Muonio. Flew from Manchester to Helsinki and a connection to Kittila 150 GBP, self catering cottage to sle...

Lucky man. Its in the 60's F (around 15 C) in our neck of the woods. Game over. Will probably wax and put my skis away for the second and probably final time this season.

On a related topic - and I'm open to the suggestion to start a separate thread - what music would you want to hear at the finish line? More cheesey music for me, Queen's We Are the Champions. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=04854XqcfCY Gets played in Europe everytime a football(soccer) team wins any...

Re: More snow! Mixed feelings!

Enjoy that snow. 10-20 years from now you can reminisce with the other old timers around, "Remember when we skied on Easter?" Etc. etc. Its a good way to burn off the chocolate eggs, I usually just get fat this time of year after getting thin from skiing season. Another foot of snow on th...

Re: More snow! Mixed feelings!

The weather is nuts in central Europe right now. Looks like Ive got another week of skiing in front of me, snow till Thursday and then it should stay below zero until Tuesday although there may be rain from Friday. Looks like Ive got 4 days minimum if not more. Done my bloody taxes today and dropped...

Re: More snow! Mixed feelings!

Woke up to loads of snow this morning as well. Had chainsawed a load of wood yesterday and left it out ready to chop today and was confronted by a load of the white stuff falling outside the window while in bed a bit surreal seen as we had temps of +12 celsius and I even ventured into shorts the pre...

Re: Daelie Rages Against Doping

In the Jizerska Padesatka 50km, our version of the Vasaloppet. 10 out of the first 20 were Norwegian(it was the pros, Aukland brothers, Bauer, Roendaling I recognised). For a small nation compared to the Russians, Ukraine or US they dominate the top part of all skiing competitions. Either everyone i...

Re: Daelie Rages Against Doping

When its routine to see people well over 60 blitzing around the forests and frozen lakes burning off us young fit tourists then I wouldnt think they need doping, the lifestyle in these Nordic countries has a lot to say in why they are at the top of the game in this sport. Kids basically ski as soon ...

Re: Hi from Heidelberg

Welcome. Its a good site this. Ive been cross country skiing for 4 seasons myself but have only just started taking it serious with waxing my own skis and investing in better gear. Many other posters here are a bit more experienced and Ive found a lot to help me get more out of skiing here.

Re: Who's Skiing?

No budget to go visit the snow this winter most likely, but have now done 3 seperate days here in The Netherlands. And could have gotten more. Ski date with a friend tomorrow. Make the most of it, while it lasts. Have you not tried skiing in Czech Rep to keep the budget down? Or maybe Poland or Slo...

Re: Tour de Backyard

Looks great fun that. Thinking to do a mini biathlon here next year, 4-5 laps of the 1km round trip to the end of the private track I live down, air rifle shoot from the top of the drive onto a target on the garage door at the bottom with penalties. Load of slivovice for spectators and skiers after ...
