Terms when teaching skating...

Does anyone when teaching skiing skating have a hard time telling people the name V2alternate? Open field is silly also. I've started telling people that it is the waltz. They will kind of accept V1 but even that is rather lame when you think of it. I might prefer silly skateboarder move names

any video showing how NOT to ski?

i think it might be handy if a ski lesson video showed mistakes. do any Youtube videos show mistakes that you know about? i've seen stopaction photos in magazines with experts showing us what not to do and usually they are fakier than heck. it might be best to use footage of people making the mistak...

Jessie so happy BEFORE great sprint final!

i've never seen anyone so carefree and happy on video BEFORE a big sprint final. what bounce! all the usa skiers were geeked and smiling but jessie was over the top fun. too bad about she and the other americans getting stuck behind ingemarsdotter on the last big climb. dang skating, it's so WIDE. a...

Re: Glide waxing question-recreational skis

well-waxed skis are awesome!

its fun to find your kickzone for both hardwax and klister. fun to get good glide.

also iron the kick sometimes. improves the glide. prolly also the kick. might reduce icing risk w smooth surface.

you dont even need groomed trail to enjoy waxed skis.

Re: Fischer RC5 vs RC7 Skate Boots & CRS vs SCS Skate Skis

what do y'all think of demoing as the best way? i spose its rare, and maybe demo gear isnt always for sale, but id be inclined toward any gear that i tried and really preferred. like w bikes but maybe w new skier one cant really tell and wd need to grow into the gear. an angle that might get downpla...

Re: broke my arm ... rats!

thx! ive been trying to learn lesson from this. (surg next wed.) might be that i shldnt do so much underskiing -- opting for speed over control. use shorter slower skis w stronger torsion. a bit like the underbiking thing: i like cx before the ground freezes for a reason: we crash in cx. i do crash ...

broke my arm ... rats!

well so much for my season. skiing my fave trail on faster skis i misjudged melting ice at bottom of a hill and wham did a gravity slam. radius ulna 4 pieces near wrist. plate/screw,etc., next week. so i likely wont be posting as much. ha. ol' one hander. determined to bounce back so i will be back ...

Re: Rossi NIS binding slipping off of Xcelerator add-on plate!

I analyzed. In my shop I could open the lever and pull the binding back a stop with some firm hand pressure. I would pull back on the lever and I'd see the tail of the binding arch up and the tab lift out of its notch. Then the binding would lock in firmly on the second notch back. Silly binding.

NNN bindings: fragile! break easy!

Ugh. Too bad SNS-Profil lost the market battle. I think they're probably tougher. I went to NNN-2 way back when it started. I've had at least a dozen sets shatter and break in various ways. All the variants have proven fragile for me. I'm not talking about the NIS types -- though the NIS refit plate...

Re: What makes skis faster? ...Narrowness or Length?

it used to be thought by bike racers, some of whom used science, that narrow hard tires were faster. so what makes fastest skis? sometimes it seems like length helps -- more surface area? but width seems to hurt -- but what does width do besides add more surface area? pressure seems to be key, flex ...

Re: Tell ya what's fun... Backyard biathlon!

these are bbguns! red ryders. couldn't even put an eye out!

also we weren't inebriated. one beer spread out during the event has no effect other than being a good idea for taste and fun. half a beer more like it.

and the bbguns are kept in one area pointed away.

sheesh. well, we are hillbillies.

Is this old age? ...Sore hips!

Is this what old age is gonna be like? I'm 55 and already am starting to get blindsided way too often. I notice before getting outta bed this morning that both my hips are sore. Tender to the touch. Below the sockets. I've been getting creaking getting up from my desk chair lately. But this soreness...
