Faster Skier forum cancelled...

It's an interesting sport that has no real viable online forum. There's like 12 of us here. Well, I guess Cyclocross doesn't either. Oh well. Interesting that Bikeforums.net still works good. Why does a forum work in one area but not another? Seems a great concept and way to access the resources of ...

Re: Ken Roberts

Sorry to hear. Ken was one of the early and only ppl to push XC innovations online, even before the WWW when it was just list-serve. He was also rare and on-topic for the web because he wd open-mindedly bring up and discuss outside the box ideas, like any good nerd. (Science, creativity and innovati...

I love it when PhD's get involved with outdoor sports!

I love product tests that are made public and done to reproducible real-world standards.

Down with toxic and up with sustainable! Best wishes...

Re: Upcoming Rottefella Back Country binding system & boots

interesting! XC and Tele are both stuck in dilemmas. Alpine Touring has clobbered Tele due to its lighter gear -- for both boots and bindings and maybe also skis. AT wins. But AT is more about skinning. To me this leaves an opening for XC/BC/Tele to dominate the rolling hardwoods -- which of course ...

Re: Low intensity training prolongs life, high intensity has little or no effect

I didn't read the links. But I'm catching the drift. : ) I remember when I participated in a blood study conducted by Dr. Jim Stray-G --- Mr. Medical XC! They plugged my data into the same system and analysis as the US Team and the top shelf of the NCAA. The results had them all with about 6X as muc...

Re: Reducing camber

I'd think there are two qualities we are concerned with here: camber HEIGHT and camber PRESSURE.

You could have a high but soft camber. Or you could have a low but stiff camber. Right?

Re: Zero to Vasaloppet in 30 days

Yeah I just saw this! He had a great fun attitude but... It drove me NUTS! The poor sap never got a single class or seemed to try to learn the first thing about HOW to ski! Every now and then somebody gave him a lame word of advice who he happened across. ...Tho in his actual event he skied w 2 ppl ...

Video of the trickiest most intense race course?

anyone have a link to a race video -- or even just a skiing video -- showing the most intense and trickiest course they've seen? doesn't have to be famous or recent. ideally a video showing awesome ski-handling action! considering how amazing and hard so many top shelf courses are, finding a ton of ...

But I saw a bunch of color coded blocks and flags at different points. Made me think they might be technique zones.

Re: Too old to start skating?

Really, "all skiing is one." It's the same! The skate body position and even the action is the same as classic. You kick down the same but the legs go to the sides. So you're good to go! Watch a bunch of how-to videos. Take a class. Read a book. (...Mine! "New Wave Nordic.") It's not any harder. It ...

Re: How to prevent DP from taking over Classic?

roadie haters gonna hate ...you could even omit grooming and let people pre-ski the course in the days/hours before and find their best lines for a given width of possible allowed terrain. There's be a variety of tracks that get skied in and which change during a race :? I'd even leave a lot of fall...
