Michigan having a crazy SNOWY April!

Michigan is getting snow after snow! ...In April.

Up north they've had 34" in 3 days -- and that's the lower peninsula!

Downstate here we're supposed to get more snow again soon.

The UP just had a low of -24degF and the Keweenaw notched up over 300".

Re: Bonking in the cold

It's been awhile. I find that cold weather adventure takes a different kind of fuel. The last time I bonked was doing a 4 hr hilly ski using gatorade and powerbars. They didn't cut it! Then I learned about Deluxe Pizza! Since then I've always taken fat'n'protein out on long cold outings and haven't ...

Trail design: is XC keeping up w the times?

Have many XC trails revised their lines in recent decades? Or since the trails were built? Seems like most trails probably built in the 1970's -- for wood skis, 75mm boots! Nub's Nob is a famous old upnorth Michigan ski resort. It also has an awesome XC trail that I visit each time I ski at Nub's. I...

Re: Cold winter this time?

We lost our winter early here in Michigan but then got it back -- but only up north. They've been getting a fresh foot of snow every week for awhile now. Not spring like either, but 15-20degF with wind. Kind of crazy! I've gone up a couple times to the newly re-opened Mt. Mancelona and to Nub's Nob ...

Re: How to promote rollerskiing?

maybe one of the reasons the question of PR comes up is seeing all those sweet videos of European pro rollerski racing. They seem to be able to make a "thing" of it -- so why can't we? So it makes ppl think "If we just set it up right, maybe..." Our regional metro area had a crit...

Re: Technique: Why are skate poles longer?

Classic poles are shorter because you can get the power of your shoulders over them easier while striding, and skate pole are longer to give better reach and a longer push, because you are essentially double poling while moving your legs, and when you double pole with skate poles you can push furth...

Re: Technique: Why are skate poles longer?

Science isn't how the pole lengths were determined. It was by trial and error and how the different lengths feel. There have been trends, such as super long poles when skating was new that were reduced later. But those trends haven't been determined by science. Maybe they have been backed up by sci...

Re: How to promote rollerskiing?

(JT being an idiot as usual. Jeez.) I see course selection as being key to RS. I've done it for decades on a boring circuit w/o any fast traffic. I could easily see some pro as being smart and no bother. I think ppl are used to gearing up these days. Helmet knee elbow hip -- no big deal. I don't see...

Re: Start skate skiing?

Hi, this season I got more serious about xc skiing for fitness and to stay away from the ski resorts. I did a few short races (5k, 7.5k), and enjoyed it. I only ski classic, and my last race was apparently mixed technique, but i was the only classic skier. My question is... I'm planning on getting ...

Re: Long distance racing, is it healthy? (article)

I finally read that Norwegian translation article link. Moderation... darn, maybe it is a thing to consider. Prolly everyone is different. They're looking at stats and tendencies, which is good, but some of this relates to markers individuals can check for, it seems. So, for whatever reason, if some...
