DIY skin skis?

i haven't studied or used skins yet. my friend just got a pair. he says the skin is NOT recessed into the base. he says you can buy replacement skins and that they are just stuck to the base. so couldn't we make our own? maybe they'd prefer klister flex. my group is interested in them for tour skis ...

Re: Are "no DP" zones really affecting races?

Wow. Ppl suggest that soon EVERY race could be won by only DP? Even the most hilly? They must be finding a reasonable way to go up that isn't a whole lot slower than striding. I wonder if this would be further inducement toward the "mt-biking of skiing" -- singletrack technical trails. Our...

Re: Are "no DP" zones really affecting races?

maybe another way to ask is: Are there No DP Zones in WC classic distance races? Before the No DP Zone concept was anyone DPing entire WC Classic distance races? ...Or was it just a Sprint thing. I wd think all WC courses are hilly -- but I suppose there is variation. Hmmm: Does a "somewhat&quo...

Are "no DP" zones really affecting races?

If classic races didn't have the "no DP" zones would they be mostly DP or much more so? Basically, when skiers are allowed are they DPing the big long uphills which are so common on WC courses? ...and doing this to overall advantage. I just glanced at the Holmenkollen 50k classic highlight...

Holmenkollen 50: classic faster than skate!!! ???

I noticed that the 2017 50k classic Holmenkollen was won in 2:02. Hmmm... pretty fast. Have classic WC 50's gone under 2 hrs yet? I glanced back at a couple previous years done in Skating mode and saw winning times of more like 2:07. Well, this year's was 2:01. Is the general idea that Mass Start ra...

Re: How to promote rollerskiing?

i think pro is common in rollerblading and would be comparably accepted in rollerskiing. ...but didn't rollerblading drop off the map in recent years? i've heard, tho, that it might be making a comeback. i wonder if it somehow acquired a mainstream that got too extreme and regular ppl felt left out?...

Michigan having a crazy SNOWY April!

Michigan is getting snow after snow! ...In April.

Up north they've had 34" in 3 days -- and that's the lower peninsula!

Downstate here we're supposed to get more snow again soon.

The UP just had a low of -24degF and the Keweenaw notched up over 300".

Re: Bonking in the cold

It's been awhile. I find that cold weather adventure takes a different kind of fuel. The last time I bonked was doing a 4 hr hilly ski using gatorade and powerbars. They didn't cut it! Then I learned about Deluxe Pizza! Since then I've always taken fat'n'protein out on long cold outings and haven't ...

Trail design: is XC keeping up w the times?

Have many XC trails revised their lines in recent decades? Or since the trails were built? Seems like most trails probably built in the 1970's -- for wood skis, 75mm boots! Nub's Nob is a famous old upnorth Michigan ski resort. It also has an awesome XC trail that I visit each time I ski at Nub's. I...

Re: Cold winter this time?

We lost our winter early here in Michigan but then got it back -- but only up north. They've been getting a fresh foot of snow every week for awhile now. Not spring like either, but 15-20degF with wind. Kind of crazy! I've gone up a couple times to the newly re-opened Mt. Mancelona and to Nub's Nob ...
