Re: Russian doping? -- (try again, on topic)

Russia was exposed for huge problems so maybe it will be banned from the Olys. OFFHAND RESPONSE--This seems reasonable. No. Just like you, Jeff, say later on, this is based on guilt by association and should be deemed unreasonable. Well, it's guilt by the correct association, isn't it? If the overa...

In a fair world, there would be equally harsh reactions to the doping control management for their useless work, and with equally huge consequences. Even I could come up with a better system than what's been in use.

makes sense! let the testers serve bans as well! get another company in there.

Re: any cool new nordic ski movie out there?

i'm thinking of an updated version of Bill Koch's little feature flick that helped create the US ski boom which had 10X more skis sold than today. he did a jump in it but it wasn't all about the jumps. he just was having a lot of fun. nothing contrived. he was truly just going out for a ski. pretty ...

Russian doping? -- (try again, on topic)

Looking for a little on-topic summary without wanting to read the Professor's complete report. My impression. Let me know if it's close... Russia was exposed for huge problems so maybe it will be banned from the Olys. OFFHAND RESPONSE--This seems reasonable. Several Russian winners from the last Oly...

Re: Skin skis taking over?

If you are not an elite racer I don't think glide wax is necessary. The glide one can achieve with base scraping and structuring is enough for almost everyone. This is effectively the same. The question might as well be "Don't you still have to work to make the glide parts of the ski work well...

Re: any cool new nordic ski movie out there?

yeah they're crazy. pretty fun. probably too macho to be relevant however. i don't know marketing but emphasizing "big air" in anything seems like a dead end. ...but maybe trips to the ER works for sales. seems like there has to be another way... who knows.

Re: Skin skis taking over?

Don't you still need glid wax for the rest of the ski though? If you are not an elite racer I don't think glide wax is necessary. The glide one can achieve with base scraping and structuring is enough for almost everyone. This is effectively the same. The question might as well be "Don't you s...

any cool new nordic ski movie out there?

So there's Warren Miller -- has he ever included any good XC footage?

Then there's the Canadians of XCZone.tv who made "Unlimited: Oxygen Fed Sport Year Round" featuring XC and a bunch of other fun. Great flick -- maybe 15 years old now?

...Anything else?

Re: Stride Tempo in Classic

i think you might find generalizations out there about tempo for striding and for poling. since there is gear and glide involved i have no idea what the answer might be. interesting that it's common in running but not a number i've noticed in XC. i've heard it said that glide is the result of tempo ...

Re: Stride Tempo in Classic

so the comparison is what is the tempo of elite runners on uphills -- compare that to classic ski striding tempo.

then you might also compare their tempos on downhills! hahahahaha

Found a source for large racing baskets!

I got a tip last year from a friend who sells canoe paddles that his supplier also sells ski poles and parts. ...Including my long sought-after larger 80's style racing basket. Remember those 2" yellow baskets? That work on soft trails? $18 a pair from http://www.Zre.com -- home of Zaveral padd...

Re: Is V2 necessarily more difficult?

So it is the hardest but it also seems like there are a few good tricks to becoming stable with it. The balance is the big thing. The main trouble w the balance is probably that it's unnatural to have that particular syncopated rhythm on each side. The up-down of the arms on each side. So the trick ...

Is V2 necessarily more difficult?

Neuro asked about it as an aside in the Rollerski section but I thought I'd bring out in its own thread. I suppose V2 is indeed the hardest move but it is also very reasonable to master then once you have it and have acclimated to it it then feels rock solid and pretty easy. Whattaya think? **** Her...

Re: Can I imitate pole-crunches with elastic bands?

I know it's a decent drill or trick on snow, but what about my training with elastics? Why doesn't it seem like I'm doing work? Like, I don't fatigue when doing it. Yes, the elastic once stretched pulls me back upright but I still have to "drop" down against the tension. So why is there no...
