cheap chinese knockoffs? ...poles?

Anyone try the Winget poles? $50 for 100% carbon. Chinese knockoffs.

Any other cheap Chinese knockoff xc ski gear out there? They seem to aim at the hightech stuff. Carbon, lights, gopro's.

Measuring skier watts?

I feel I've brought this up before but I did a search and came up empty. Is there a handy way for skiers to measure watts? I would think that one of those skiable treadmills could just have a wattmeter on it and however fast you could get it going would tell you. I recall discussing this somewhere a...

How long do skis last?

I'm guessing their lifespans are rated by mileage but I haven't seen any ratings of lifespans or comparisons or estimations. What a funny biz is our ski trade! I'd guess that 2000 miles might be a nice ski lifespan. ...I did see that mileage noted by a brand for a nowax ski model. However, waxables ...

How are magic Nanogrip and Optigrip doing?

Anyone using Peltonen Nanogrip or Yoko Optigrip these days? Liking them? How different or better are they from Zero or Skin skis?

Re: Is poling from the thumb better?

hard to see details w all the black in that photo but it looks like the Swix strap I have that inspired my post. it also has 3 points of connection -- left right and top. i don't care so much about control, at least for this topic, but it feels like i can lever off of my thumb w this strap -- i can ...

Is poling from the thumb better?

Kuzmin seems to think so. I wonder if there's an easy way for us to test this for ourselves other than by buying his grip and glove. I have an older Swix cuff that fits in a way that seems to 'catch' my thumb and seems to involve my thumb in the poling motion. Basically it seems like Kuzmin is sayin...

Boutique CAD ski companies?

It seems like short run boutique CAD companies helped revolutionize the biking industry. Is there any potential for something like this in skiing? Where a small company could go to a large ski maker and order small batches of skis to their own specifications online at cheap unit prices which they th...

Revisit a legend: when Oddvar broke his pole!

I just learned about the famous episode of when "Oddvar broke his pole." It happened in 82 and it's still a big deal in Norway. ...He caught the Soviet Savjalov near the finish then tangled on a climb and broke his pole. Had a great pole exchange. Then the legend has it that he caught Savj...

crazy rain race at TdS -- another near 30kmh ave!

Rainy stage 5 15k that was more like 14.7k finished in under 30 mins. And it was a flat course! Huge pack throughout the race. Lots of crashes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=10UXb5Fue6w crazy that Tonseth had so much bad luck and still did OK. ...was he the one who lost a ski for awhile? i think h...
