Re: Help: my friend has sore adductors

PS: Bah, i was worried but now he says he always gets sore there at the start of each new year. no worries. i suppose everyone has the place where they get sore each new season. the past few years i've been hooked on cyclocross fever -- and i haven't been doing as much rollerskiing or circuit-traini...

Kuzmin Alate grip better? Thumb? Finger?

The Kuzmin Alate pole grip is claimed to offer a longer work lever.

Is it smart to work hard using your thumb as the platform? How does it compare to the index finger? Maybe both?

Help: my friend has sore adductors

We've had our first few days of skiing. My young friend tells me he's getting sore adductors. We haven't sorted out why yet. I haven't seen him ski lately. Sounds like stability issue. He usually uses nowaxes. He's an elite athlete. I suspect he has bomber kick. ...I used to hurt my hamstring missin...

Different parts of the country like diff waxes?

Wouldn't different regions tend to have snow that "likes" certain kinds of glide and grip wax more than others? Like, I've often heard people rave about Start Tar waxes. Here in mid-Michigan I think we have humid snow. ...Those waxes basically offer zero grip. They've never even worked for...

Re: Anyone skiing yet?

several of us have been skiing different golf courses around mid-michigan as of yesterday. i guess we got 2". enough to filter into the grass and cover it a bit. a bit of grass drag but not so bad! the ground was frozen ok already so we're not getting wet snow soaking thru, which is nice. more ...

Good glue for regluing base to tip?

A friend has an older NOS Blizzard with white P-tex base. It's the same kind that I have. The front portion has peeled off of the ski and is flapping. I'm not sure what is the core material. Can we glue it back down? Is there a glue that is great for this? Thx

Re: Bjørn Løkken skied 50 nordic miles in 48 hours!

I don't get it. A guy skied 513km in 48hrs (6mph ave)

But another guy skied 438km in 24hrs. (11mph ave)

These are hugely different records. I mean, the second guy is hugely faster than the first.

Re: Skins need sprays? ...What the heck?

I'm concerned that it's not as simple as one spray to keep skins from icing. I'm pretty sure that the dozens of complainers about terrible skis at that Birkie did all use a spray. So it kinda seems that temperature adjusted sprays might be needed... And that icing or other problems aren't limited to...

Skins need sprays? ...What the heck?

What's up with skin-skis? They seem to be so famous. Everyone is gushing over them. I just saw a citizen race report, though, featuring a LOT of people stopping, taking them off, and rubbing them on trees because of icing. So, they're intended to be waxless. The problem w wax? ...Having to match tem...

FYI, Opera VPN lets you watch firewalled video

If we get the situation where we can't watch certain video in the USA this season, then one easy solution might be to use the free browser Opera and its free VPN. Turn it on in its prefs then pick a country that gets around the ban. It has been working for me with cyclocross.

Anyone know of a good demographic study of cross country skiing in the US?

Maybe over recent decades and also in comparison to other outdoor activities and their growth or decline. I'm also wondering about Nordic shops or shops that sell skis.

How many Nordic areas in the US?

Does anyone know? Ballpark I mean. I see a very easy statistic which is there are 350 in the US and Canada. But I'm curious about the US.
