Re: Skin ski questions

friend suggested that F4 paste also works fine -- whattayathink? i guess i'll just test it sometime. i haven't yet experienced saturation. i did see all those birkie complaints that one year. kind of pitifully hilarious how the skins seemed to blow up on them. i guess we all need to learn how they b...

Re: Skin ski questions

i just got a pair of atomic pro c2. they're wider for more allround duty. 48-50 approx. i skied a long day in icy slush and they seemed great. occasionally grabby. better kick and glide than those around me. i've been skiing them on my local trail as well and sometimes they seem grabby. sometimes th...

Re: better format for WC racing?

it's not well enough at all. i haven't noticed any PR being done with Jessie and Kikkan's first-ever gold. also xc and xc racing aren't growing in the us in any reasonable way. JFT's silly mockery is pointless. i'm suggesting a mtbike type broad-based democratic counterpoint to the monochromatic roa...

Re: Best easy glide for zero deg F ???

I just mean is it faster than your previous way of prepping skis for really cold weather. Start Green has been famous as a cold prep. I'm wondering if there's a newer way that is faster and equally simple. For all I know it's "Yeah, Start Green was good 20 yrs ago but today most ppl just do 'X'...

Re: Best easy glide for zero deg F ???

So this Vauhti Quick Glide works better than my simple Start Green approach in very cold weather? I also like Loran's Kuzmin idea but have yet to try it. I wonder if there's a way to get super-sharp scrapers at less expense, like in the furniture trade. $5 -- https://aboloxtools.com/bahco-474-125-0-...

Re: better format for WC racing?

Ha. It wd be a freestyle race, not a skate race. Classic might allow easier maneuvering. And it wd look a lot better. Course layout wouldn't be the same as CX -- obviously, creative designers never slavishly imitate anything. It would challenge skiers in ways suitable to the skills and the equipment...

a time when Petter won before the finish...

I recall a couple cool times when Petter won the sprint against his rivals about a half-km away from the finish line then coasted in. Here is one of them: https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=80&v=g_-QCV-TFgw ...But this might not be his most memorable race win in this fashion. I haven't ...

Re: Best easy glide for zero deg F ???

i rotobrushed and then metal brushed really hard -- back and forth -- and that seemed to help a lot. wax was start green one ski, CH6 the other ski. skis quite a bit faster after this treatment (or abuse). is it a crime to brush back and forth? is it gospel to only brush tip > tail? i've read about ...

Re: better format for WC racing?

all i can think of is it works for cyclocross. ...i'd have to say the course would need to be really technical. not necessarily having big climbs or descents. it's good to lead in CX. it's also very reasonable to move up. they do world cup events in city parks with CX. don't need very special terrai...

better format for WC racing?

Rather than boring and confusing interval racing ... or boring and defensive mass start racing ... why not design courses to be more challenging, as with cyclocross, and create a mass start concept that doesn't reward mooching and where people can rally their motivation and skills and move up. Skier...

Re: XC Skis for firm, bumpy trails

i like the idea of a midlength midwidth for skiing singletrack. that's the preferred setup around here. metal edge is good for ice. slow and heavy for everything else. locals like fishscales and 'freshen' them w boxcutter as needed. i like rubbery zero type skis -- hard to find them in tour type, th...

Re: WC coming to MNPLS in 2020!

I haven't revised my first post yet but it looks like the schedule for the MNPLS WC stop is March 2-3 this year -- Sat and Sun. And it's March 14-17 next year -- Fri > Tues. Does that seem right to people? No lame midweek stop.
