Re: Road rage against rollerskiers

interesting how the Jessie story developed. first big news item had the driver apologizing and Jessie saying that's OK, we just want to be safe. then a few days later the prosecutor got wind of it and said wait a minute we're not going to tolerate this at all, we're going to have zero road rage acce...

Skin ski mounting balance point?

For those who don't have plates... Are skin skis known to be grip-heavy or glide-dominant? Does this affect their typical mount-point? I recall oldschool was a half inch behind the balance point to keep tips in the tracks, I guess. Or maybe to enhance glide and put the kickzone a bit more forward. ....

Birkie: does Classic wave start first?

Do the classic skiers start before the skaters? And so do the skaters end up passing most of the striders? ...Do the styles mix well? I'd think a better strider might have a similar pace to a lower-ranked skater. Update: answered my own question. Googled and found they list the schedule. They interw...

Re: The only correct way to measure XC ski pole lengths

My impression is that 83% is by no means a recommended length. It's just the max FIS. It might be that only WC skiers or flatland canoeist skiers would enjoy such a length. It seems they're mostly trying to keep actual skate poles out of classic events. But these events will still be doublepole cent...

Re: A weekend with Marie Dorin

Very cool! ...I note that biathlon is the most popular winter sport TO WATCH ON TV. The doing-of-it is not common at all. Probably just-plain-XC is the most popular winter activity -- done by the most. However, biathlon is awesome to do -- with whatever marksmanship tool you might have available. We...

Re: any cool new nordic ski movie out there?

Nice vids! (Frenchies and Vikings.) ...But... In both videos they are skiing ROADS not trails. A goal for me this season is to create some videos of TRAIL SKIING to illustrate ski handling. And, well, trails. Wow, I wonder what skiers like Jessie could do w skis made for handling and if they were on...

Re: Converting nowax to wax base

The fantasy hope (for a few of us who have posted here'n'there) is for when skin skis are offered with a variety of replacement strips. Including skin, zero-rubber, and regular waxable p-tex!

Re: Anyone CAT Skiing? ...I am! : )

The fact that they are heavy and slow is irrelevant. They are designed to train and teach classic skiing. Your speed comes when you are on the snow. They reward good kick and penalize bad kick. They are far more safe and stable than any regular rollerski but I suppose you do need to find a tolerable...

DIY skin skis?

i haven't studied or used skins yet. my friend just got a pair. he says the skin is NOT recessed into the base. he says you can buy replacement skins and that they are just stuck to the base. so couldn't we make our own? maybe they'd prefer klister flex. my group is interested in them for tour skis ...

Re: Are "no DP" zones really affecting races?

Wow. Ppl suggest that soon EVERY race could be won by only DP? Even the most hilly? They must be finding a reasonable way to go up that isn't a whole lot slower than striding. I wonder if this would be further inducement toward the "mt-biking of skiing" -- singletrack technical trails. Our...
