Re: Snow/Ice Buildup in Grip Zone of Waxless Classic Skis?

We want to thank everyone here who helped a couple of newbies learn some things. We did get some Swix base cleaner and have been cleaning and re-waxing (Swix F4 liquid) after each outing. We've been out twice using this regimine and so far things are much improved (and my wife is enjoying skiing). I...

Great! Thanks for all of the detailed info from everyone.

I feel like this icing problem has let us learn some things that will help us out going forward.

Re: Snow/Ice Buildup in Grip Zone of Waxless Classic Skis?

Thanks to everyone for all of the help. Went out and got some Swix Aerosol base cleaner on the weekend. Didn't get any Fiberlene cloths though. The ski shop is not inconvenient to go to - so, should I just use a cotton rag or paper towel, or best to stop and get the Fiberlene? Just spray it on, wait...

Great. Thanks for the advice - we sure appreciate it. "Structure" is the terminology for what I have been calling "Fish Scales"?

Re: Snow/Ice Buildup in Grip Zone of Waxless Classic Skis?

I will clean the bases with a base cleaner. I have only used a rag and warm water to clean them to this point. Can you recommend some base cleaners, please? Roughly, after how many outings would bases need cleaned - every outing, every 3-4 times, etc? I realize that this probably depends on miles co...

Re: Snow/Ice Buildup in Grip Zone of Waxless Classic Skis?

Continuing problem ... We were out again today. mid-high twenties (f) with 10-20mph wind and some strong sun. I have put liquid Swix F4 on my fish scales twice and the problem was not as bad for me as for my wife (which so far has only had one application of the F4 liquid on the scales [kick-zone])....

Re: Snow/Ice Buildup in Grip Zone of Waxless Classic Skis?

Thanks to all! This is our first experience on any XC-ski forum - and this seems like a great place to get feedback, answers etc.

NXSki,

Can you name a few brands/products for the products that you mentioned in your earlier reply.

Thanks.

Snow/Ice Buildup in Grip Zone of Waxless Classic Skis?

Greetings, My wife and I got classic waxless setups two Winters ago. With the snow we get here in SW Ohio we can get out about 6-10 times a season. We had an early snowfall here recently (first week of December). There was strong Sun in the morning and the temp was about 28°F. It clouded-up maybe 20...

Newby ...

Ran into some on-trail issues and was looking for a place for answers. Found this forum via the very original method of a Google Search. Will search existing posts for an answer before asking something that may have already been answered. We are here in Southwestern, OH. (Dayton area) - so not a sup...
