Re: Cold feet fix?

I had problems with my feet getting cold early this year. The solution boiled down to fit for me. I wear a boot that cannot fit a thicker sock in it without becoming kind of tight. I switched to a thinner nordic smart wool sock and keep my laces tied snug but not too tight. Turns out I was unknowing...

Re: Spills and thrills

I've had some real decent luck on close calls while on rollerskis. The latest scare was from a distracted driver. A few times with tired legs I got too close to the gravel on the side of the road which sucked me in to the ditch. Also some of the roads I use around me have gravel driveways when peopl...

Re: SISU 2017

I wish I was as it is fairly close to me. I originally intended to enter and just do a nice easy supported distance day of training but the cold weather kept me from committing. I know they made quite a few changes to the race. I'll look forward to hearing what you thought in a race report. Stay war...

Re: Trail fees

My local trail is the Birkie trai in Hayward, WI and a season pass is $50 . They groom at all times of day/night to get conditions the best possible. They also keep lights on at two different areas on the trail until 10pm. Also running water is starting to become available at warming huts. A race en...

Re: Anyone skied yet?

I skied 2 times double pole on back roads just messing around with rock skis before this last snowfall. Today was my first day on the Birkie trail skating. Soft snow conditions. There was alot of people out to beat the cold tomorrow. With a couple small snowfall totals over the last week or two the ...

Cable WI December 28th Double Pole Derby

I just learned there is a 14k double pole derby at the new Birkie start December 28th. From the looks of it money goes to the Hayward area ski program. $40 bucks for citizen racers. The price might be a little steep but the event sounded like it could be fun venture to try out before any serious rac...

Re: Those in-between months..

I feel ya on that. I went for a singletrack trail run for an hour yesterday (in blaze orange due to deer hunting) but could use the rollerski right now for sure. I have a fatbike i can use for these in between periods as well which helps. Pondering heading up to ABR in the UP for some good ski condi...

Re: Race Suits, your thoughts?

:D the Porta pot wisdom is great! I'm only just growing into a semi serious citizen racer. I'll look more secondhand for a good buy or something on closeout. No need to spend good money on non essentials.

Race Suits, your thoughts?

Every race I show up to I always see plenty of pretty cool looking race suits. Some xc store suits or team suits, or even just the random lumberjack suit :D For those of you that use them what do you like about them for a race setting? Are they going to increase performance? Perhaps a boost of confi...

Re: Jenex V2 - views?

I hadn't heard that, but I can see why it would convince one to look elsewhere. I am in the 165-170 range depending on the day and haven't had any problems. With snow coming this weekend im hoping to ditch them soon anyways. 8)

Re: Jenex V2 - views?

I use the v2 xlq98? right now. I put hundreds of k's on the last set of wheels. I just replaced the wheels this year and they took some getting used to and some adjusting of the front levers to get them to track right. I spent about 20 minutes total on an easy fairly flat stretch with no traffic to ...

Re: 2016 Birkie

Birkie website on trail conditions guesses that the conditions will be fast. They also have left open the possibility they will not be able to groom quite like they want. Either way I am looking forward to a new twist compared to the last few years. I have the skis dialed in, and it's looking like t...

Re: Skate pole length?

I am 6 foot as well. When I was fit with my first set of skate skis and poles I was given an aluminum pole that was 165cm. I believe they told me you want the ski pole to reach the the chin area??? I went to a 167.5 carbon a year or two later, and had the poles re-cut to 165 after a few outings. The...

Re: 2016 Birkie

Birkie Fever is high here in Hayward with perfect skiing conditions. I don't have a bib number to report as my confirmation email has not come through. Yes I triple checked every email and spam folder I could remember almost back to junior high. The Birkie staff said it happens, and to just show up ...

Re: Pre-Birkie 2016

Nice write up. It seems you have really turned it up a few clicks within the last year. I love your data tracking over the years, what are you using to come up with all this? I have been looking into the world of gps hrm watches but can't seem to find one that is heads and tails above the other. As ...
