what kind of watts do skiers generate on the ski erg 2?

When pushing hard I can average ~ 275 watts for a 5k which takes about 18 mins.

Re: Measuring skier watts?

The concept 2 skierg measures watts perfectly. Best exercise investment ever! And if you're wondering why Sadie Bjornsen is killing it thus far I think the skierg is a good place to start!

Re: Olympics 2018 Pyeongchang

Also, since the nordic countries are limited to 3-athletes per event its less competitive than the WC. For example, who's faster, the 20th best Norwegian female or the fastest female skier from Panama? Exaggeration - but you get the point. And then their the IOC who is completely destroying women's ...

Too Cold to Ski?

The eastern 2/3rds of the country is in a deep freeze; -23 F in western Iowa, -18 F in Lake Placid, -2 in Davis WV, -13 in Portland ME, and these temps are forecasted through Jan 8.

Re: What made you start XC skiing?

I got injured with a "sports hernia" (which isn't an actual hernia but abdominal/hip flexor injury) and wanted to keep active. Hip flexion was a problem but DPing on rollerskis was pain free. So that's how I got started. I was a 41-year old newbie!

Re: Kuzmin Alate grip better? Thumb? Finger?

I have a set with the gloves. I haven't tried them yet. I can see the logic in transferring more power to the poles - I'm just worried that I'll inflame my thumb with all that pressure. I don't think this is a good grip option for stride-and-glide, more DP and skating (I could be wrong).

Re: Cold winter this time?

If we had a trail with snowmaking in northern Virginia we'd be skiing. 19 F (-7 C) this morning!

Re: Russian doping? -- (try again, on topic)

I haven't followed this story very closely but could someone please answer 2 basic questions:

1) has any of the alleged Russian skiers/biathletes actually returned a positive sample from Sochi 2014?
2) is Dr. Rodchenkov the sole single source for the Russian doping/cover-up methods?

Zero officially in Virginia. I've read that the Homestead resort has nordic trails but I think that's incorrect.

Re: Trail Pass

I'd pay that if I had a trail within a 1-hour drive. I guess its all relevant. I'm 25 miles WNW of Wash DC. If you had snowmaking equipment, you could probably have a 60-80 day season in Western Loudoun. We average over 100 days of sub-freezing nighttime lows per season. Unfortunately, the closest n...

Re: PSA: Save 40% on ThoraxTrainer through Kickstarter

Here is another PSA: the ThoraxTrainer is not too fun to train on - at least on my gym the pole slider action felt quite notchy and did not feel too good. I tried to like it and used it for warm-up 1-3 times a week for six months but now they have retired the machine. Of course the gym machines suf...

Re: Kuzmin scraping and structure

Just as a FYI, US customers can now order direct from Kuzmin.se. I just ordered two scrapers (17 + and universal) and the Alate Grip with gloves. I'm new to nordic so I figured I can be new at waxing or new at "scraping". From reading these posts and others, it seems like you can get 85% t...

Re: PSA: Save 40% on ThoraxTrainer through Kickstarter

Interesting machine, never seen that before. A bit OT, but the article made a bold claim that would be nice to get confirmed: "Nordic cross-country skiing is considered one of the most physically challenging sports because it activates more muscles than any other sport in the world." Its ...
