Re: FrankNski setup for backcountry

Thanks for that. I was also thinking a combi/skiathlon boot would be better.

FrankNski setup for backcountry

Why not the following set-up for backcountry with gentle rolling hills: A go anywhere ski like Fischer S-bound 125 or Voile Vector BC with an Xcelerator binding with the red flexor to make the boot/binding very stiff (i.e., very little ski drop from boot). This ski would be pared with a modern carbo...

Re: classic faster than skate for some climbing?

While watching the last stage of the Tour de Ski (uphill stage), I noticed they were only going 6 KPH on the steep sections. I'd think running with climbing skins would be faster?

Re: Winter season 18/19

Not a great start for the US east coast; however, those in the southern rocky mountains (New Mexico and Northern AZ) are having an epic season!

Here in the mid-Atlantic its been mild and rainy and so far remains me of the 97/98 winter.

Re: Pole length

If its a calm day go with the longer poles, if its windy then you might want to go with the shorter poles, i.e., anticipating more striding.

Re: Video of Petter intimidating rivals and 'pre-sprinting'?

I'll miss the excitement he always brought to an event. Although I never cared for this post race antics. Especially the hockey-style stops right after the finish line, i.e...blocking other athletes path (I would have plowed into him!). He'll always be remembered for the 2010 games in Vancouver and ...

Re: Russian doping? -- (try again, on topic)

At the end of the day I try to dismiss all "conversations" about doping allegations, either you are positive or you are negative. You are clean unless proven otherwise. That is how it works. If the doping officials have concerns, conduct more tests, develop more sensitive assays. Don't use...

**SPOILER ALERT** I recently watched the Ruka sprint, Klæbo lost first place because we wanted to "hot dog" prematurely, allowing Bolshunov to pass for the win. Klæbo then continued to pout and acted like a spoiled child at the finish and awards ceremony. Bolshunov has amazing range, spri...

Re: Your heritage?

My family - going back at least 6 generations - are all Southerners from Virginia. No Nordic skiing in our bloodline. Interestingly, I grew up in the Northern exurbs of Detroit and would see folks cross country ski on occasion. It was a core injury in 2014 that kept me from running and I wanted to s...
