Re: Kuzmin scraping and structure

Just as a FYI, US customers can now order direct from Kuzmin.se. I just ordered two scrapers (17 + and universal) and the Alate Grip with gloves. I'm new to nordic so I figured I can be new at waxing or new at "scraping". From reading these posts and others, it seems like you can get 85% t...

Re: PSA: Save 40% on ThoraxTrainer through Kickstarter

Interesting machine, never seen that before. A bit OT, but the article made a bold claim that would be nice to get confirmed: "Nordic cross-country skiing is considered one of the most physically challenging sports because it activates more muscles than any other sport in the world." Its ...

PSA: Save 40% on ThoraxTrainer through Kickstarter

I've always been intrigued about this machine but it was never available in the US: http://fasterskier.com/fsarticle/save-40-thoraxtrainer-nordic-ski-machine-limited-time/ My one concern would be with the "fixed" poling width. I would think that is highly personalized and if its just sligh...

Re: 80 year old car speed record finally broken

The Silver Arrow's (MB and Auto Union) may still hold the autobahn speed record. Imagine traveling at 248mph in 1930's tire technology!

Re: DIY klap skates and winter triathlon in 1990

Nowadays, winter triathlons almost always consist of a run (sometimes with snowshoes), MTN bike, and skate ski.

I wish I could skate like those in the video - they make it look effortless.

My perfect triathlon would be a row (in a single sculling shell), classic ski, and trail run.

Re: Early winter here in NW Montana....BUT!

I love the attitude Jeff! Your spirit will certainly help your recovery. During times of injury, I've always incorporated nordic walking as a low impact way to keep fit. Throughout the 19th century, long distance runners would do most of their training by simply walking and they were running 3hrs fl...

Re: Skin skis taking over?

Do any of the current skin skis allow for the 'skin' section to be totally removed and replaced with a flat surface which could be glide waxed for DP courses?

Re: Training philosophy

I think its a lot of work at 130 bpm. For runners this is often coined as "junk miles"; however, I think you can do a lot more in XC skiing at 130 bpm.

Re: Stride Tempo in Classic

Some of the elite 5/10,000 meter guys are turning over in the low 200's. I've not sure its all that applicable to Nordic classic skiing. If you watch the "Ski Classics", their DPing the entire course (sometimes 70k or more) at a rate of 55-60 per min. As a former rower, I've come to apprec...

Re: Cold winter this time?

Here in the mid-Atlantic it so variable that its impossible to predict. Canaan Valley, WV - about 3 hours west of Wash DC - gets about 160 inches per season (> 400cm) so you can always ski there but "when" is anyones guess. The one nordic center (Whitegrass) does not make snow so its quite...

Re: Kuzmin scraping and structure

I was thinking more about the Steal scraping technique - I guess you would NOT want to scrape skis with a metal edge? I would think it would be quite difficult to avoid scraping the metal edges with each scraping stroke?

Re: Kuzmin scraping and structure

An alternative, but much pricier is Multicut . Other scrapers are found at http://skimateria.se/sicklar/ and http://www.skigo.se/skigo/produkter/vallatillbehor/glid/struktur-polering/skigo-base-scraper-strukturskrapa.html About the Skigo base scraper and pink papers (super fine sanding paper). It a...

Re: Kuzmin scraping and structure

What about waxless skis? Obviously you'd want to avoid scraping the fish scale section but what about scraping the glide sections?

Re: Kuzmin scraping and structure

I'm new to waxing and was just about to drop a bunch of money on waxes, irons and other tuning equipment but now I'm not sure after finding this thread...awesome! I'm guessing this technique is only good for skate skiing and only the glide zones on classic skis? How about using this (scraping) techn...
