Re: Skis too long?

Hey, Mike! They are actually a little too short if they are meant for the classic technique. Using the old formula "body height x 1.15" for classic skis, you should have 204 cm skis. But 200 cm will probably be OK if the camber suits you. What are the widths of that ski (tip - waist - tail)?

Re: Revisit a legend: when Oddvar broke his pole!

And maybe revealingly, Savjalev says in the video that after Brå went past the last uphill and he was on all fours on the snow, that he was considering grabbing Brå's ski which in a way confirms that the pole breaking was not entirely an accident.. Ha, ha! I suspect the mentioned ski-grabbing was a...

Yes, and so it seems, I think. Maybe Oddvar was also an alpine skier. But I have never heard of the hand counting in a cross-country photo finish.

Re: Revisit a legend: when Oddvar broke his pole!

Well someone knew, and that was the decision, AFAICR undisputed by the Soviets. Since Finland shared its bronze with East Germany I really wonder if someone knew. A decision is not necessarily correct just because it is undisputed. About the shared gold, maybe it was felt that both Savjalov and Brå...

Re: Revisit a legend: when Oddvar broke his pole!

They didn't really know exactly. The foot came later, maybe as a result of this (as it's easier to see on photo finishes). Was there anyone who really knew? What did the FIS rules say about this in 1982? There was no protest lodged. Can't really do that when you get gold, even if there is a good re...

Re: Revisit a legend: when Oddvar broke his pole!

At that time I believe they measured the middle of the calf instead of the foot like now so it was about equal. The Norwegian commentators only talk about the boot or foot. No doubt Oddvar hindered Savjalov at the finish line, probably on purpose too, but likely payback when Savjalov hindered Brå's...

Re: Revisit a legend: when Oddvar broke his pole!

I have never seen a YouTube video with so many commercials. Very tiring to watch.

The Norwegian team should have insisted on being given the silver medals since I believe that at least Mikkelsplass saw that Zavyalov crossed the finish line first.

Re: crazy rain race at TdS -- another near 30kmh ave!

Rainy stage 5 15k that was more like 14.7k finished in under 30 mins. And it was a flat course! Huge pack throughout the race. Lots of crashes. Yes, a fast and crazy race, but also quite funny to watch, like when Calle Halfvarsson made a "fall attack" on one of the Russians, and when thre...

Re: Is your stride equal on both legs?

Yes, but if I'm going to carry something heavy, I'd use my right hand. Yes, I believe that is because you are right-footed. I play golf right handed. I think that should be called right-sided since many right-handed people play left-sided in e.g. ice hockey. I wonder how sidedness is linked to hand...

Re: Is your stride equal on both legs?

In classic, I can't tell the difference between sides. When I'm bounding, I start with my left foot forward, and I assume I resume striding with the left foot forward, but I've never noticed. For skating, V1, most of the time I feel more comfortable with my left hand uphill. There are times when I'...

Re: Is your stride equal on both legs?

Question -- I've always found that my left leg is stronger (...) So wondering if others notice/have that tendency also? Happy New Year, Pat and others here! I believe one has a dominant leg and foot, just as one has a dominant arm and hand, so it is a challenge to make the weaker as strong, coordin...

I believe you are thinking of the 10 km classic style race not in Davos but in Toblach: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TskyCcqNxy0

They have been dominating for many years now, but the current female World Cup leaders are both Swedish.

Grigory Rodchenkov's attorney Jim Walden is an interesting character who accuses IOC of cowardice and believes Rodchenkov will be tortured and killed if extradited to Russia: http://www.bbc.com/sport/42487917
