Re: FIS shortens 4 x 10 km relay to 4 x 7.5 km

It was the 'smaller' countries voting for it so it was mostly for sporting gain with the TV format length mostly used as an excuse.

Re: Anyone skiing yet?

Season over and besides some glorious days in the best winter for decades, a particularly fond memory of a trip coming to a café in the woods which is also a farm and I'm surprised by a small horse let loose that's going between the tables outside looking for snacks. A lovely meeting. :-) http://www...

FIS shortens 4 x 10 km relay to 4 x 7.5 km

FIS had their congress in Greece now, and instead of the expected changes with the dropping of classic sprint and skiathlon (15 km classic + 15 km skate), it was to change the relay only, taking everybody by surprise. The purpose is to help smaller nations and the general feeling that sporting event...

Johannes Høsflot Klæbo makes custom rollerski with IDT

Original article in Norwegian, or through Google Translate . He wanted a rollerski that's more similar to normal ski on snow in order to get the most out of his summer training, so he has helped develop a ski with 'less grip' than what's available now. He says they've still to perfect it with the c...

Re: World's most eager skier?

What a nice back garden. Would love to live like that one day, but only if there are (daily) groomed trails nearby. I'm so spoiled for that now..

And fab video in a beautiful scenery Trotro. I like the slow and 'hold' camera flying.

Re: The only correct way to measure XC ski pole lengths

I think the idea behind measuring with boots is simply because it's more practical to do with athletes before race start. I also believe measuring from the strap is new as given lengths before would be the whole pole from tip to top judging from my poles at least (Swix). So the traditional way was s...

Re: World's most eager skier?

That's impressive, but why do you prefer track skis over terrain skis? Better for skating?

Re: World's most eager skier?

Another season with more than 10 000 km for Tom. (still not over!) That's 50-60 km each and every day. This year he passed a lifetime total of 320 000 km which equals the distance 8 times around the earth. He celebrated with a strawberry. He says this winter was exceptional not seen since the 80's. ...

Re: Are "no DP" zones really affecting races?

Yeah the DP 'problem' has been eliminated by the measures, but I don't believe ungroomed or rough tracks will help any. It will instead produce a lot of skating allegations.

Re: Holmenkollen 50: classic faster than skate!!! ???

Yeah that's interesting but like you say Holmenkollen is very steep, basically just up the hill and down again and I guess the advantage of skating is mostly on the flatter parts. But I think the snow makes the biggest difference, and with mass starts depends a lot of the tactics and this year the m...

Re: How to promote rollerskiing?

I've had about 3 accidents rollerskiing, all painful. I normally wear a helmet and elbow pads as I once landed very heavily on my elbows and chest. I used to do a lot of rollerblading, it is much safer IMHO. Used to commute to and from work from central Paris to la Defense over a variety of road su...

Re: Bonking in the cold

Worst was probably this winter after first snow. Took it easy the first few times but then overdid it to the point where I was actually pretty much finished on the way out.. Dragging the bones 5 km back doesn't sound bad but it was mostly (quite steep) uphill with a lot of herringbone parts and it t...
