Re: Winter season 18/19

Went out today again, but the weekend traffic must have been immense as stones had been kicked up and was everywhere. My precious skis look a mess! Sob.. :? Ah well, at least I have rock skis now.

Re: World Cup 2018/2019

Yeah biathlon is so much fun, my fave too. I did try to watch some races without commentators on Internet when we rebuilt the house and TV was out (Biathlon TV, don't know if it still exists), but it wasn't the same, probably because I'm spoilt with top commentators. Norwegians do well because this ...

The greats share their secrets

Two of the greatest of all time just retired with Bjørndalen and Bjørgen, and the common thread was that they from an early age and throughout were super-motivated to train and didn't need anybody to push them. Meaning if you or your kid needs nudging and 'inspiration', the case is already lost. Add...

World Cup 2018/2019

What do you think of the season so far? Youngsters Klæbo dominating the sprints for men and Nilsson the womens, but no clear leaders in long distance although the Russians are quite strong in the mens (especially classic).

Re: Winter season 18/19

Finally enough snow to get out on my good skis. Was lovely. https://i.imgur.com/eCznXTG.gif Of course everyone had the same idea so quite crowded trails with a hairy moment when a bunch had blocked a descent in the process of taking off their skis and whatnot. Wanted to plow early as I knew it would...

Re: physics of skiing ...compare skate to classic

Indeed. The reduced drag being on one ski helps a lot too.

TooHeavy wrote:Always found classic was faster up steep hills if waxed perfect and the track is good. Grade just prior to having to herring bone.

My experience too.

Tour de Ski last hill you mean? Yeah it's not pretty, but satisfying to see pro skiers struggling like myself.. :D

Re: wow so many Russians at front!

This is how it's always been. Russia (well Soviet union, same thing) always been right up there. Reeling after the doping allegations, but bouncing nicely back now. Oil oligarchs (LukeOil) sponsoring the world cup team, and government programs at lower level. Lots of coaches, main one is German (Cra...

Re: Stadium Biathlon

Almost 50 000 people for an indoor sporting event is crazy on any scale, but biathlon is simply one of the most popular sports in Germany, almost on par with Formula 1 as the second biggest after football I believe. But it's the same in other countries. TV viewing figures are very impressive all ove...

Re: World's most eager skier?

Tom's season started October with some trips higher up, but now that this pond closer to Oslo froze over and got some snow mid-November, he did the 650 meter loop around it 30 times for a 25 km 'trip'. Since then there are normal tracks open for 'stone skis' so that's what he's doing now. https://ww...
