Re: help -- how does biathlon get a pursuit aspect?

Yes, having a separate World Cup race within another World Cup race like they do with the best times in the XC pursuit is also slightly bizarre.

Re: Video of Petter intimidating rivals and 'pre-sprinting'?

He tried the Birken this year but was 24 minutes behind. Of course this was during training so he was not optimally prepared, but he's tried hard for 2 years to get in shape for the World Cup but seems his body is just worn out or something. And as he was only really motivated for big championship e...

Re: Video of Petter intimidating rivals and 'pre-sprinting'?

Don't know if it's what you mean, but when he crossed the finish line sideways after the 2011 WC relay to win in front of the Swedish team, the Swedish TV commentators said "he might be a wolf among sheep, but here he is also a pig".

Re: help -- how does biathlon get a pursuit aspect?

I remember how one American journalist mockingly described the Olympic event as 'where they hand out a set of medals half-way in the race', and unfortunately it's true.

Re: help -- how does biathlon get a pursuit aspect?

Fair if it's one competition over two days, but it's not. It's two separate competitions.

Re: help -- how does biathlon get a pursuit aspect?

Yeah it's from the sprint result, but it's such a bizarre competition, especially when it's allowed in major championships like World Championship and Olympics. I mean, in what sports do some people get a head start and others start with a handicap ? It's totally unfair, against all sporting ideals ...

Re: Salomon + Atomic to be bought by the Chinese

It's so weird with that snow statistic. Where does it go? Even the Arctic seems to have less. Russia maybe?

Re: Too old to start skating?

The most helpful trick when I learned skating was to turn the head to face the ski going forward, maybe it can help you too. (It was actually what I overheard the national coach insisting Therese Johaug should not keep forgetting to do).

I've totally missed that, although I know 'slow-TV' was very popular here with several spin-offs after it was first introduced.

Re: Harvard: Interstellar asteroid Oumuamua may actually be of extra-terrestrial origin

Rama indeed, I didn't think about it before. But I believe the theory of the Harvard team is that Oumuamua must be a solar sail and therefore wafer thin for the most part. If so it would just be a scout which is ironic as that's what the name means. Synchronicity you would mention Rama as I was just...

Interesting. I wonder why they sold it. Climate change affecting sales in Europe and USA? XC going to boom in China?

Re: Warming huts with fireplaces

I have never seen or heard about trail warming huts here around Oslo, because there are bigger houses (manned) which are cafés spread around the whole area. They are heated electrically. They typically look like this: https://i.imgur.com/BzGiXUT.jpg But in the mountains all over the country there ar...

Re: Pellet stoves

I live in the centre of the city and here all wood burning stoves are now banned because of the waste particles (fully agree with this measure as it was quite noticable before), although I see it's considered relatively green when it comes to Co2 emissions. From what I can see, it's considered easy ...

Re: Cold winter this time?

Had a batch of snow so some tracks are now open around Oslo, although I won't go just yet as it's only 20 cm thin layer and I don't have a pair of 'stone skis'. Encouraging though.

Re: Russian doping? -- (try again, on topic)

One of the coaches for the Russian XC team since 2010, Markus Cramer from Germany, is dead certain that there has been no systematic doping conspiracy as he has been with the athletes almost daily for years and they have been continually tested at home and abroad. He says it all rests on one man's t...
