Re: Crossover roller blading, roller skiing and skating

I too had quite a twist when my rollerski pole got jammed between two planks on a boardwalk boardwalks eh? I broke a pole that way in the autumn (at Aix les Bains by the lake - wonderful place to ski and skate) and then another pole a week later in a drain. The drain was annoying because I lost the...

Crossover roller blading, roller skiing and skating

I hurt my arm at the start of this season (building work) and am pleased to make it through to the end. Rather than getting the rollerskis out I've dusted down my roller blades (inline skates). Now there is obviously a difference in the movements but how detrimental is it? I'm hoping to improve my b...

Re: US Biathlon Article in Seattle Times

Well it was Egan who finally got it together with a podium in the last mass start in Holmenkollen. Incidentally a venue where Dunklee has done similar before, so don't know if it's last race of the season and late form appearing / pressure off, but interesting conicidence. Dunklee was certainly off...

Re: Winter season 18/19

Sounds like a nightmare. There is a descent like that at a local ski area called Barioz - very steep but maybe just 15 meters height drop, you just launch off and come to a halt on the other side but it is always hairy. I'm improving my balance so have had less brown trouser moments on skis, just pa...

Not looking good at the nearest X country center to work (1000 metes asl) today

Re: Winter season 18/19

@Neuro
Incredibly hot, they are forecasting 22C next week... in February. Everyone says it's only weather but I find it very worrying. Got out a couple of times last week but the snow is melting pretty fast.

Re: The only correct way to measure XC ski pole lengths

There is something to be said for checking on snow as you have the height of the boot + ski + binding + plus any plates the ski maker has stuck on, that can add quite a few cms. I'm 178 and took a pair of 155cm poles but at the club training the other day the instructor asked if they were "classic" ...

Re: Winter season 18/19

Yeah that's way cold. Of course you probably know but worth reminding that risk of asthma is high when doing hard exercise colder than -15 C. But a watershed day for me as I sold my skate skis and it will be classic only from now on.. :? Reason is acquiring skin skis and lack of tracks. Basically j...

Re: My day at the Foulée Blanche mini ski marathon

Were you skating? A lovely area and surprised about the level of interest in XC there. They are mad about XC up on the plateau (as we call it in the valley). My son did the kids foulee in 2014 and you could see the gulf between the valley kids and the plateau kids. I doubt they get much schoolwork ...

My day at the Foulée Blanche mini ski marathon

There isn't a lot in English about the annual Foulée Blanche ski marathons up on the Vercors plateau in France. The 42km event is part of the World Loppet series. I opted for the 20km mini marathon event because i) I would need a competition license for the 42km event and this requires an extensive ...
