Re: A weekend with Marie Dorin

Yes, that's me with the bad rollerskiing style. I've been working on it since but I'm not that dynamic - afraid of falling on hard tarmac. The best thing I did this autumn was spend an afternoon at another rollerski center on my own just trundling around. Today did a classic for the first time and a...

Re: la Feclaz rollerski track, French Bauges

This is where I usually rollerski https://youtu.be/jGcs_tpBCbU but the Feclaz circuit appeals to me now with the up and down hills. I did about 500 meters of climbing over a couple of hours without feeling it too bad as it was rolling terrain. It is just a bit of a schlepp up there, which is why I h...

la Feclaz rollerski track, French Bauges

last week I went up to la Feclaz in the Bauges mountains. Set on a highish plateau this is one of the principal winter cross country ski areas and there is also a summer track. I took a bit of video if anyone is interested https://youtu.be/t3Fq9khstbM There are five loops: a green flat dumbell aroun...

The guy with the beard is called Amaury, he's very good. He's cross countried in the past but only just started rollerskiing, but he's very athletic.

A weekend with Marie Dorin

I mentioned a few weeks ago that I was going to do a Biathlon "stage" with Marie Dorin and Lois Habert. I've got round to writing up my experiences. It was an interesting 3 days and brought home just how good the biathlon stars are. Biathlon is the Number One winter sport in Europe and its...

Re: any cool new nordic ski movie out there?

with the short Icelandic days I think it would be dark by the time I've finished :-) The race is held in the beginning of May. Days just below the arctic circle are already very long then. Here is a map of the race: http://www.fossavatn.com/fossavatn-com/userfiles/images/Fossavatnsgangan-en.jpg You...

Re: Collapsible poles

I was thinking more like metal ferules as you get on fishing rods, that should be strong enough.

Collapsible poles

has anyone thought of collapsible poles for roller skiing? it seems like poles are currently the weak link for schlepping rollerski gear around the place. I would envisage something akin to a fishing rod setup with a ferule and some kind of locking mechanism.

Re: Gignoux Carbon Ski Boots

It is obviously a bit artisanal, I don't like the look of the hinge and you wonder whether you are not better taking advantage of Salomon's skills with the XLab boots for much less money. They do look better in the flesh compared to my photo. 800 euros is a lot though and I can think of stuff I'd ra...

Gignoux Carbon Ski Boots

I've been seeing a few references to Gignoux Carbon Fibre skating boots recently. Gignoux are better known for ski mountaineering gear and I'd heard nothing of cross country gear. Anyway I got have a look at them at the weekend so they do exist. Gignoux collaborated with Salomon during the 2011-2013...

Re: Uphills

Ok advice from Martin Fourcade is to climb using double poling only (both with skate or classic skis) to build upper body strength. He reckons this will pay off in the winter as most non pro / competition level skiers lack arm and upper body strength. I guess the idea to to start in rolling terrain ...
