Re: Swix Quantum Three Poles cracked with cork grips

If you are close to the shop that cut them, I'd bring it back since they reinstalled the grips wrong. The grips are installed w hot glue, you need to heat up the poles/grips to soften and remove the grips. Use a heat gun or use hot water (submerge the grips, carefully due to your crack). There is no...

Re: better format for WC racing?

What a stupid and ridiculous idea! Think about the basic abilities of a CC bike. Brakes! Ability to accelerate in a narrow space (24" or less). A CC course can be in a park with lots of twists and turns because of the braking and maneuver advantages of bikes. A skate skier needs 5 feet in width...

Re: pilot skate binding spring?

Have you switched skis? If the problem moves to the other side then it could be mounted wrong. If you the problem stays on the right side then it's technique. Skis could be mounted a bit behind balance which would make it more likely to drag a tip but create a faster gliding ski. Most people are str...

Re: XC Skis for firm, bumpy trails

I'd go Fischer Spider 62 or maybe Outback 68 (same ski just a bit wider). Both are full metal edge with sintered tips/tails that you can glide wax. Good torsional stability which along with the steel edge will help the control and edging on ice. Reasonable camber for kick and glide but not as fast a...

Re: FrankNski setup for backcountry

Even a great skate boot won't drive a wide ski like a Sbound 125. I've used a Carbonlite Pursuit (Combi) on a 68mm tip ski no problem. It's a lighter and better fitting setup than a NNN BC. You may be able to get away with a 78mm tip ski. Maybe E89 with a NNN skate binding. If you've never classic s...

Re: Add to my quiver?

I would echo what is said above. Your coach should be able to help answer what conditions your current skis excel at and where the gaps are. Zeros are very much a specialty ski and are good when the conditions are right, usually freshly fall snow right at or slightly above freezing. Skin skis are ge...

Re: Skin ski mounting balance point?

You really really want to have adjustable bindings on your skin skis. The grip/glide really depends on the snow. Skins excel in icy, glazed, older snow conditions and are grippy in fresher and drier snow conditions. Also the individual flex of the ski and how the skier skis plays a big part. You mov...

Re: Norway outlaws fluoride products from junior competition (<16 yr olds)

This been a gentleman's agreement in New England for a couple years. They do allow high end waxes for the qualifying and regional meets. I believe it's a good policy and eliminates potential conflict on some teams. Some teams may have enough Flouride wax but not enough for the whole team. Does the n...

Re: Any good combi ski?

A Combi ski will be skiable but it won't be a good skate ski nor a good classic ski. As mentioned above Fischer does sell the SC Combi, their lowest end construction. How many variations of Skate and Classic does Fischer sell? A lot, 7 in the US, more in EU. If Combi was a solid solution they would ...
