Re: US Biathlon Article in Seattle Times

This year the team started well with Clare Egan in very good ski form, but had some incidents (resulting in loss of confidence?). Sean Doherty is starting to shoot good and likely to have a top result one of these days IMO. Well it was Egan who finally got it together with a podium in the last mass...

Re: Nordic spoof and training videos...

This video just released is causing quite a controversy, and just before the World Championships too. It's Swede Calle Halfvarsson and Robin Bryntesson having it at Norway. It's made by a funny guy at Norwegian TV as a response to the rivalry with Sweden which Petter Northug put a sting into with h...

Re: Too old to start skating?

When I was skating, I thought classic skiers should be tolerant to me gliding over their tracks when both styles were allowed there, but now that I'm classic only I much dislike skaters messing up my tracks.. It can be irritating, especially when the snow base prevents setting track, but the skate ...

Re: the latest in cold prevention?

Emergen-C is good for me as a preventative. My grandparents drank a little brandy which helped, and I've had success with a bit of Cider. Vitamin C is important in preventing colds and Zinc is great at reducing their impact and lessening their duration. Cold-Eeez is a great product for this. As for ...

Re: World Cup 2018/2019

A surprising fade by Niskanen, but they said he had very bad skis this time. Top four spots to Russians has to hurt Norwegian pride I would think. Johaug should reclaim some of that tomorrow. Jeff Yeah Johaug winning a hilly mass start race is probably the surest bet in sports right now, but a Russ...

I've been told that Norwegian fans throw hot dogs at ski racers. It's expected!

Re: better format for WC racing?

it's not well enough at all. i haven't noticed any PR being done with Jessie and Kikkan's first-ever gold. also xc and xc racing aren't growing in the us in any reasonable way. JFT's silly mockery is pointless. i'm suggesting a mtbike type broad-based democratic counterpoint to the monochromatic ro...

Re: Winter season 18/19

Even more snow! 30-40 cm in a few days made today's outing one of the best of the whole season. Silky smooth as it was on a hard and prepped icy base. Of course this is the last throes of winter as April is around the corner and forecast is for above freezing from now on, but what a nice surprise. ...

Re: better format for WC racing?

No disrespect intended, but when did Jessie Diggins ask for managerial advice? Do tell! I think you might be in the wrong sport, after all cross country or Nordic ski is thousands of years old. But given your suggestions, I have to ask: Have you ever heard of Alpine Skiing? Freestyle is an Olympic E...

Re: Too old to start skating?

I'm definitely too old for Skating, bit I'm not that old. On paper anyway. If I want to skate I'll put on my ice skates, not a 6 foot plastic skate. Seriously skate skiing is cheating. Twice the speed with half the effort. And it's only one technique! Back in the 80's, some guy couldn't hang with re...

Re: Winter season 18/19

Great season overall. Skid about 400 km total since December 5th. Rain and slush now but hoping for maybe a few more Lake miles if it refreezes.

That was an interesting race, especially to see 1234 to Russia!

I wonder what happened to Niskanen, he seemed to dissappear.

Re: better format for WC racing?

I don't think XC racing is at all boring, and I'm kind of wondering:

If you feel this way why watch it at all?

Can't we just leave well enough alone?

Re: Cold winter this time?

It's hard to believe I'm saying this, but right now it's too cold to ski: minus 30 Fahrenheit with windchills far below. That's -34 C which is crazy, never experienced this cold. Worst was doing alpine skiing in -24 C. Had there been no wind I might have gone skiing. When I went outside I was think...
