Re: Kuzmin scraping and structure

Good sharp tools for, say, wood machinery, are not cheap either. Also, At least for Kuzmin's or skimateria's, they are not producing a flat base and are not so "basic". The produced roughness is a very very important glide factor. So, producing a sharp and not straight tool is probably not...

Re: Kuzmin scraping and structure

Hi high speed roto-brushes is a brilliant idea IMHO. Note that the FP brush is another thing ; It is supposed to coat with a thin layer of Fluoropolymer, not polishing. I have no tested the new blades, but the new tungsten carbide one is promising, at least for the initial job of removing a layer of...

Re: Changing cleats on Salomon Carbon Skate Lab

This is great news. Much like bike shoes and cleats/pedals which can be selected independently. You won't change ski shoes cleats more than you change your bike shoes cleat, but at least and at last you can buy the bindings you want. I think It also opens a door for innovation in the bindings design.

Re: Base peeling gone bad?

Hi, I don't know how to gain access to the pictures. There's a video from Zach Caldwell http://www.caldwellsport.com/videos/ "flattening" There's also Kuzmin's and alike tools. To properly remove a "wave" (or not creating waves) you'd pull the scrapper with an horizontal angle. S...

Re: Hot waxing outdoors in Winter?

Hi If routinely ironing at 120°c your ski bases, which are likely to be between 10°c to 20°c at room temp, doesn't question you (100°c gradient !!), then bringing you skis outdoor for a quick work shouldn't... While the former will damage your skis for sure in the long run, the latter won't. Scrappi...

Re: US Women in Falun World Championships - great result

That's why I more interested in knowing which ski had the US girls, rather than Kalla's, Whose mind and confidence probably played an important role. Diggins also had a high bib number and was not expected at that level. It's not minimizing her performance by thinking that she must have had really g...

Re: US Women in Falun World Championships - great result

Great job US team ! At the start, the snow was already wet ans slush. So Norwegians must already have selected skis dedicated for that (deep structure). What kind of ski would be good on wet slush and so bad on new wet snow ? Or is it extra-soft wax effect? So, wondering also what kind of skis are b...

Re: Variable Glide

Unless I'm wrong, Fischer rates "Plus" on the warm side.

So, your skis may have been under their lower limit at 19F and OK at 24F.
Also, waxing a lot with warm wax soften the base even more.

Re: Variable Glide

Please tell us more about your skis. What about the wind ? "styrofoam" glide is typical of wind-compacted dry and cold snow. At places where the wind has accumulated snow, crystals have been broken into high density of sharp teeth awaiting your skis... At places where the snow has been rem...

Re: Toko Structurite

Zachary Caldwell wrote a while ago that the Swix Super Riller T401 is probably the first tool to put in your prepping box. Rolling tools have taken the lead since then. T401 has two drawbacks : - Rills are more or less permanent and therefore you'd better have two pairs of skis. But This is the firs...

Re: Salomon Profil or Pilot Bindings?

I (as well as others, I think) am talking about skating bindings, not Classic.
The new, top-trimmed, skate bumper seems to be designed for RS17.
