My only caution is that you can learn bad habits on blades vs. rollerskis. If you are confident on your on snow technique rollerblades do provide a safer alternative for dryland training. As someone said " Champions are made in the summer". I say say "I am a rollerskier who skis in the off season".

I have a buddy who is doing it for the second time this year. Quite an adventure. He will skate it, says that temp flucuations make classic a problem. Think Swedish Vasaloppet with hills and altitude. No problem..

I always do the long one. Also depends on snow conditions around home as to whether to go to a short race. From where I live all races are at least 2.5 hours from home.
