If you pick up the Trail Illustrated maps they show a lot of winter trails. There is also a decent book called "Winter Trails Colorado" by the Lightbodys. As far as groomed trails i really like Eldora, but I don't have much to compare to. I've been to Eldora and Keystone. Hoping to remedy ...

Brainard area

Anyone know what the conditions are in the Brainard lake area near Ward, CO? Thinking of playing hooky on Friday and going over, but don't want to drive that far if the conditions aren't decent. Might also give Eldora a shot, but the webcams for Eldora show snow so I'm not so worried about going the...

Might try to get out somewhere in the Front Range. I'm going to do Bison Peak and maybe McCurdy Mtn whether or not there is snow involved.

If I can't ski a peak I guess I'll go to a nordic center somewhere on the first Saturday of the year.

To answer my own question: A smidgen less than what Denver has on the ground today.

Took the skis to the park today. Wasn't really enough to have much fun. And the littlest one, tho bundled to the nose was miserable. We call her Les Miserables most of the time.

Very cool!

Thanks E!

We're actually looking for some place for this weekend where we can take the little ones and they can just play while my wife and I play on our skis, so that might be good for Sunday.

Ok, so I got out at the park this morning and it went well. There seemed to be plenty of snow to get some glide. I think I like it! :D There was about 2-3 inches on top of the grass and maybe up to 4 inches in a few lower spots. Other than near walk paths where there were a lot of foot prints that h...

Cool, I think I might just start out at the park where I'm fairly certain there is only grass to hit. And the occasional hippie.

How much is not enough?

I am a complete noob, and am picking up my first ever set of XC skis tonight. We got a few inches of snow around Denver and I will be itching (already am) to get on my skis and start learning what not to do. My questions is this: what is enough fresh new snow to play around on on flat ground and wha...

Help with kids

Ok, so my wife and went out and got skis and now the conundrum is what to do with the kiddos. My first instinct is to haul them along in pulks, but since we have a two year old and five year old that would mean each of us hauling a kid, though I usually pull them both in the bike trailer with no pro...

New

New sums it up. I moved to Colorado from Kentucky last winter and my wife and kids moved out in the spring. While I was here alone my wife threatened me with bodily harm if I went skiing without her. She grew up in upstate NY and XC skied to school. Me: until I moved west I thought skis were somethi...
