I tried to spin on my trainer, still can't bend the knee enough yet (MCL tear). Missing skating like crazy. :-(

Its been many years since I worked as a ski tech, but the theory was you only get a certain percent base penetration and most of the wax just sits on top. When you scrape and rewax, you get more penetration. That said, I personally opt for judicious but careful heating/ironing (because I'm lazy).

Nice job Adam! I agree re tents - no sense in penalizing racers that can't afford high altitude training. Good summary of the tour. Thanks.

glad I didn't switch

Man that sucks - glad I stayed with Profil. I've got autos on my touring/classics and manual on my skates. Never had a problem with either. I have had some fit issues with my boots though, and was appalled to find Salomon won't accept customer email/feedback - the height of arrogance in my view. Sal...

looks like a good deal, but their order processing sucks (won't accept valid credcard), and when you give up to phone the order in, you hold until they drop the call.

ski boot 75mm

Lots available on ebay - cheap!. Probably Craigslist too. Three very good 3pin brands are Alfa, Norona, and Asolo, Good search terms are 3 pin, Nordic Norm, 75mm. If you find you like the skis but not the 3pin/boots you could later upgrade boots/bindings. Unless you have very standard shaped feet, I...

Re: Heading North

[quote="How are they doing for snow? .[/quote]

Just upper Sun Mtn trails open now, but I'm optimistic that there'll be plenty by New Year. Have a great trip!

Gessner youtube

Thanks for posting the Gessner link. I've come to similar geo-reconcilation with inline skating. Not as fun as snow, but along a nice stretch of So Cal beach on a fine day...

DIY arch support

Jay, I've been thinking along similar lines. I'll bet some closed cell foam, e.g. blue foam or ensolite (stuff used for backpakers sleeping pad) would be ideal. I think feather tapering the edge would be very important. I did a hard 30 mile skate yesterday. I placed the metarsal pad/arch support far...

Agony of De feet

Jeff - I can relate 100%. I recently got some information that I hope will make a big difference for me this ski season. I've been plagued with boot/shoe problems all my life (small, high-volume, high arch, high instep heel prominence feet). I skied in three pin boots from the 70s - 90's, devoting r...

crust skate

Reminds me of my introduction to skating. One day at Mt. Baker (WA) the new slop was too deep to ski (thigh+ deep). Descended ~2k to valley floor to find an iced over snowmobile track up the Nooksack river toward Hannegan pass. Had zero kick on my steel edge tele boards so tried to "skate"...
