Re: American Birkebeiner - 2012

You are right. I did this several years back when we got 8" or so the night before and ended up skiing with out tracks for quite a while. I would ski the skate course and most likely break trail till the 9k turn. I think that would still be preferable to hauling my 215 lbs up a hill skating in ...

Re: American Birkebeiner - 2012

I skied on the trail this past weekend both north and south of OO, all good...fast and firm. About two inches of snowfall fell Friday night to spruce it up a bit. I've done 25 Birkies and this will be my 5th Kortaloppet. I will skate unless we get a foot of snow Friday night then the classic crowns ...

Re: Petter Northug to ski Marcialonga

The last three K's are all uphill...this after 67K of double poling. Of course there is an aid station there that offered little shots of expresso when I did this event. Tasted great but I still bonked.

Re: COLL

I was at Theo Wirth the last two days working the Paralympics and the snow is better than you might think. I did not hear that he would use multiple classic tracks and then re-groom for skate. We did they same thing at the HS Sectionals at Battle Creek last year in Saint Paul. The reason then was to...

Re: Birkie Classic Course - any Comments?

Jay, I picked up some Swix LF5 ( that's not a typo ) at Gear West last week. I think it officially comes out next year. It is reported to be good especially in old aggressive snow and artificial conditions from 8F-25F. I used it at Trollhaugen last week at 30F and it was surprisingly good. Still had...

Re: 2012 Natl Masters

There is no way the Frontrunner will only spend $5 on coffee, heck that will be double that in the Grand Rapids airport alone. I'm planning on doing the Pre-Birkie (need a new sweatshirt) dashing back to the cities to pick him up at the airport, heading up to Mora at 5:00am Sunday to do the 42K clas...

Not sure popularity is limited. Norwegian Birkie sold out 16,000 entries in less than a half hour. American Birkie set a cap of 8,500 skiers and sold out 2 months early. City of Lakes Loppet is almost full for the classic race. I'm not sure of the number but 6 or 7 of the Worldlpppet races are now f...

I'm part of a ski group in the Twin Cities called WAM-XC, whose unofficial tag line is " We will offer unsolicited advice for problems that you never knew you had" At least they warn people :-)

Paul Douglas (Twin Cities non TV weather geek) did nail this one early, one advantage of a blog I that you can really explain your reasoning with multiple sources of data.

Waxless classic skiing Sat & Sun at Como Park in St. Paul, pretty good for Nov 14th. I'm pretty sure we will lose it this week

I did not know that Ben Popp had set one up, great idea. To all: Ben is going to attempt the Ride Across America Solo mid June.

Thanks Eric

Jim, Thanks, the Oslo Sports Center was a good idea, lots of case studies. Unfortunately nothing specific about this injury but good prevention studies around hamstring problems in general. I did find one good study in another site re: an NFL cornerback. The rehab that has been prescribed for me is ...

Hamstring Surgery and Recovery for XC

I had a pretty bad hamstring injury (torn off the bone) while warming up for City of Lakes Loppet Feb 1 and had surgery to reattach it March 2nd. I'm just starting PT this week and while I can find lots of general information about recovery and rehab I have yet to find anything specific about the ef...
