Re: Reducing camber

You shouldn’t be surprised that the camber of a racing ski is resistance to being altered—that’s the engineering spec ;) In my case, one clamp didn’t quite completely close them, so I added two more, and laid them flat in the warmest spot of my basement. I was prepared to leave them clamped for a we...

Re: Reducing camber

Sage advice from Montana if you’re using NNN. I have a similar issue w/a pair of *stiff* Fischer training skis (SNS)—so stiff and un-kickable that there’re like standing atop leaf springs. Ideal for double-poling, but useless for striding. I remebered an article Zach Caldwell wrote about using clamp...

Re: X-Adv binding compatible with Profil? [NEW SEASON! :) ]

I had a pair of Salomon X-Adv XA/Adv-8 boots on my Madshus Glittertinds and loved the combination. Unfortunately, I developed a bad blister below my ankle from a seam in the boot mold that I was unable to remedy. Returned them to find a replacement boot couldn't be ordered. Ended up having to change...

Re: FrankNski setup for backcountry

combi boots are the most awesome development in XC. they create a big part of the 'mt bike of skis' -- huge control and stability on ungroomed trail. Jack of all, master of none perhaps, but I love my ProCombis, too. Even with SLABs and RC Carbons on hand, I use my 'combos' a lot while classic skii...

Re: The only correct way to measure XC ski pole lengths

For me, 0.83 x my height comes up 2.5cm short. My traps ache at the thought-it'd really throw my form off.

Re: XC Skis for firm, bumpy trails

Thanks, all! I found the Voss on a rather extreme closeout, so I snagged a pair. I'll try them with wax and see if I'm headed in the right direction - I've never used metal edges on a ski this narrow, so that'll be interesting to try. They are also cheap enough to be a great candidate for a DIY ski...

Re: Backcountry ski pole length

See my earlier comment on your other post regarding a few thoughts on pole length. The challenge for backcountry is that while you skis (or snowshoes) float on the semi-compacted track you make in deeper fresh snow, your poles are going to plunge into the soft snow below the plane of your ski bases,...

Re: Turnamic bindings opening during World Champ race!

Thanks for the video, Neuro. I'm in the same camp as E365. No issues w/Propulse or Profil whatsoever. It's their implementation of the Pilot skate that are my favourites! The problem with Demo days for NNN/boots are that too many variables change for us SNS holdouts to properly gauge the possible di...

Re: Too old to start skating?

Great question! If you've been classic skiing for 'decades,' you're in for a treat. Classic skiing is to 'zen' as skate skiing is to ENDORPHINS. I love both, but a day out on skate skis and you can't wipe the the smile off of my face. It was a revelation to me after a decade of 'grind out the miles'...

Re: Hello from Montana

Welcome! I have a pair of Madshus Glittertind MGV+ (205cm) and love them for much of what you mentioned--though I choose them over the comparative Fischers for their more forgiving tip and tail for telemark turns. We use them in areas w/a lot of Cedar/Pine/Spruce debris, so opted for the waxless (MG...

Re: Best late-season spots in US?

Welcome to the forum! Considered the Canadian Rockies? Canmore Nordic Centre (our Olympic/FIS venue)/Banff/Kananaskis is hard to beat any time, let alone in mid-April, and your US dollar goes a long way ($1US = $1.34 CAN). CNC is a 90 minute shuttle from the Calgary airport - the scenic Rockies is w...

Re: How Long Does Liquid Glide Wax Last?

Much, much less than a proper waxing (iron/parrafin wax/scraper/nylon brush). The Swix F4 liquid helps reduce icing under foot in the dreaded fresh snow of 28°F-33°F, but wears away quickly. It's the wax "in the base" that reduces friction in cold/dry snow and suction in warmer/wetter snow. You'll g...

Re: Fischer RC5 vs RC7 Skate Boots & CRS vs SCS Skate Skis

It does sound like a good deal. I just need to decide if I should hold off on the skis until next year when the Turnamic system comes out. I am sure we would have to pay a premium for them and forget about any sales. Not sure if it's worth the wait and the full cost for the performance/convenience....
