Re: BC setup for a downhill skier...

That looks good. I have the wider Fischer Sbound 98's with 3 pin bindings and have been happy with them. I've heard good thinks about the boot you're looking at and I'd love to get hold of a pair myself.

Re: New BC skis?

I ended up with the Fischer 98's with 3 pin cables. Definitely slower than the Rossi's, but so much better climbing and very easy to turn on the downhills, even for me, a tele-beginner. A skinnier ski would definitely be more efficient for general off track touring, but these will be what I'll be us...

Re: AMC 100 Mile Wilderness Trails in Moosehead Lake Region

I would love to get up there or to the Maine huts trail - maybe next winter - just a little far to trek w/kids from here in central Mass. I little bike riding in the area may be in the works for this summer though.

Re: New BC skis?

Thanks for the info - I may just flip a coin - either is going to suit my purposes a little better than the BC90's. I already have some skinny metal - edged skis for in - and out - of track skiing.

New BC skis?

I have a pair of Rossi BC90's that I haven't been too thrilled with. I'm thinking about replacing them with Alpina Lite Terrains or Fischer Sbound 98. My local shop has good prices on both right now. Does anybody out there have experience with either?

Re: Cold but no snow... Time for NORDIC SKATE!

I've thought about getting some nordic skates for hitting the ponds around here, but I'm a horrible skater. Will probably just put the studded tires on my bike soon and go lake-riding. What's your test for whether the ice is safe? I usually just watch the hockey/fishing/snowmobile activity and see h...

Re: VT - Stowe - 2012-2013

Where is the snow in NE?? From here in Mass, I can't see any! I was up in the Jackson/Pinkham notch area last weekend and there was some snow, but not enough. Let's hope for some soon!

Re: VT - Stowe - 2011-2012

We were at Trapp on 12/31 and 1/1 for the first time and had a great time. Conditions were varied, but it was nice to finally see some snow somewhere.

Beautiful area! I don't know about skiing there, but I have hiked and bike in the area a little when I live down south. I would think that the Virginia Creeper trail would be good for moderate skiing when/if there is enough snow. Also, perhaps parts of the Iron Mountain trail (I think that's what it...

I made one last trip to Windblown today. The trails were disappearing as I skied, but I had a great time and am looking forward to next year....

Thanks Lew - I over-analyze these things since this is our one chance of getting away as a family to ski for the season.

Once again, I'm looking for recommendations about places to ski a little further afield from central-Mass. This time last year we went up and skiied Great Glen and it was great. In fact, I have a hotel booked in Jackson for next Thursday - Sat., but now it looks like it may rain over there so I'm ha...

I would say yes, absolutely, but I'm still new to XC and have trouble with even the smallest hills on ungroomed trails. Not that I'm not trying to get better, though. I'm a pretty good mountain bike - been doing that for >20 years, but I freak out even on a 20 foot wide fire road if there's any kind...
