I see, I thought grip tape was pretty cheap. What sort of price is it?

grip tape on waxless skis

Really, I need some new classic skis but I'll probably wait until the sales start in a few weeks. The kick area on my waxless skis is starting to look pretty smooth and I'm not getting any grip at times. As a stopgap I was thinking of sticking some grip tape on, is that a daft idea or has anyone tri...

Re: broken binding

Hi guys I ve bought used skis Rossignol with Fritschi Rave binding. After using it several times, I broke a small piece on the heel piece .. see photo That binding is very, very old. You're really very lucky it broke without hurting you, it wasn't safe to use to start with. Fritschi stopped making ...

I do, in fact I use custom made insoles for all skiing & hiking boots to correct an arch problem. Works fine for me.

Looks like the backcountry snow is going to get tricky for the next week or so, so I made a list of moderate / high altitude cross-country centers in Savoie which I haven't tried before. doh <<sound>>, you're KenR off pistehors :o The penny only just dropped  Not sure where this snow is, it w...

P.S. The higher-altitude Savoie centers claim to be holding onto their trail coverage. But I'm bringing my old rock skis. And making specific plans for days with a little fast skating in the morning, road-bicycling and rock-climbing in the afternoon. I was in the HS for work and it's not great. Som...

Re: Jura snow conditions

We are off to Les Rousses on 14th February and the webcams are rather confusing. Certainly there seems to be no snow in Les Rousses or Lamoura but it looks OK at Darbella. Anyone been there recently? I realise that it could all change for better or worse overnight! I live close by and it's not real...

not great for skiing right now, some nice weather for walking but more autumnal than mid-winter really. I'll be away again from tomorrow so I'm hoping there'll be some snow when I get back in a few weeks.

I'd not call it old style, it's still the boot/binding of choice for a lot of people.

As well as those mentioned there's Crispi of course.

But seems like right now the snow is holding up better at some of my favorite XC ski centers in Savoie, higher up at like 1400 m or more. If only les Fourgs were closer to Geneva, could be easier to try a visit impromptu when the snow is good. Ken It's all looking a bit desperate now, I was driving...

As a sidebar on the interchangeability of gear or the crossover between one AT/tele/nordic in terrain. I happened to see 4 guys in a group on top of a local peak the other day, two were on nordic gear (I spotted some Salomon XADV 89's) another on dynafits and I didn't notice the last guy. The point ...

Re: Choosing an off track/metal edge ski for backcountry

Will I be able to effectively kick and glide if I put an AT or Tele binding on these and ski with there corresponding boot? Or is it going to be silly and nowhere near the same as if have an NNN binding and boot. I can't see an AT binding working well, assuming it's a Fritschi or Dynafit then they'...

Altitude: 1,183.8 m (roughly) all the photo's should be embedded with EXIF GPS data, so you can put the URL into an EXIF viewer and get a Google map as well the altitude etc: http://regex.info/exif.cgi?b=3&referer=http://swissmountainleader.com/gallery/var/albums/2010_nordic/2010-12-18-Les-Fourg...

I didn't take any photo's yesterday but I can do a short snow report from the Val de Sagne area. As I guessed, the pistes were prepared enough to survive the temperature spike, it was about the warmest day yesterday. We had a layer of fog which reduced the radiative heating on the snowpack a bit. Ar...
