Re: Cold winter this time?

Montana on the east side of the Continental Divide (Glacier NP and south) snow is very thin. None on the plains and mountain snows thin as well. A little more on the west side but valley snow is also thin. West Yellowstone is good but not especially deep yet. Up until Christmas it's been fairly warm...

Re: Pole length

...what is a better strategy for using a slightly longer of shorter pole for classic in this case 145 vs 140 length. I fit right about in the middle with my height for the length.... Most good ski shops have in stock pole shafts with a basket but the handle is not attached. This allows them to fit ...

Re: Too old to start skating?

Sorry I missed seeing this. Homestake Lodge is the name of the area. It's about half an hour from Butte, going eastward on I90. I've been there in the summer - they rent the lodge for weddings - and the terrain looks really promising, but haven't had a free day to break loose and try their t...

Re: Too old to start skating?

...There is a new ski area about an hour and half from where I live that supposedly has skate skis for rent, so as soon as I get a chance I'm going to break loose and give it a try. I'm always looking for new Montana cross country ski areas with groomed trails. What's the name of the new place near...

The races were up relatively quickly

I watched the Men's 15 k Classic from last weekend on SkiingVinnie's YouTube channel last night. English commentary.

Re: Video link for World Cup races -- US viewable...

Skiing Vinnie has a YouTube channel where he posts World Cup races. But you'll have to wait a few days after the event. At least this was the case last year. I checked earlier today (Sunday) and Saturday's races were not up.

Re: Just a winter pic

Didn't see your site before and realize you are a photographer by trade Montana, some fab pics on your site there. You have a great workplace that's for sure, Montana is so beautiful. When I got my driving license I used all my savings to go to US, bought a car (a huge 71 Oldsmobile Tornado) and dr...

Re: Just a winter pic

Hey Jeff, I think I ran into a friend of yours back July 1st or so at the Super One. He was probably 70 years old and riding a classic old green Bianchi. I'm trying to remember, but I think he was heading to Canada for a big ride and wanted to get in some miles that day for prep. (It rained that da...

Re: Just a winter pic

In Montana the smoke from wildland fires has been getting worse almost daily through the month of August. A nice big dump of snow throughout the west would be wonderful right now!

Re: American Birkie 2018

...Is there a "Birkie trick" for improving poling in the 'taters? Maybe a Birkie basket or a diff flex pole or longer length? Maybe also a diff style -- I could see maybe a longer arm action, forward reach, but w not so sharp of a hit. I could have put on a larger basket. The Swix TBS bas...

Re: American Birkie 2018

I feel somewhat like Jay - might be my last one. This was number 22 for me, and the slowest, hardest I can recall. I’m never fast but 5:25 is slow. We had such very cold weather for most of Dec. and Jan. it was impossible to get many long days in, and I suffered for that. As many have reported, the...

Re: Dead Last at Seefield.

I can't recall the particulars but didn't one of the men break a pole and have to climb one of the longer hills with one pole?

Were there any falls during the race? A skier who falls hard may take time to come back up to form.
