Re: Birkie Backup Plan --GBC or Pepsi Challenge

Here is an elevation profile comparison between the 2016 Birkie (red) and the 2015 Pepsi (blue). Pepsi is two laps. You have that initial 2km climb, and then the next 12k are deceiving on the plot, they are pretty pitchy steep climbs so it isn't easy. Then get your climbing legs on because you go up...

Re: Birkebeiner Course Info

I agree on the dire forecast. The Pre-Birkie had fabulous conditions. You could tell the trail was thin on the south end though. I'm pretty sure my poles were clinking on the icy base in a few places. North of OO it seemed great... but the forecast is frightening. Hoping for the best, mentally prepa...

Re: broke my arm ... rats!

Ouch!

Maybe time to experiment with new techniques for single sticking?

Heal up.

Re: Birkebeiner Course Info

The American Birkebeiner?

Such as the groomer reports on their website?
http://www.birkie.com/trail/#latest-trail-report

Or the ones on Skinny Ski?

If you meant the real Birkie, then I'm no help there :)

Re: What would you do?

I thought I read that the Oslo was was specifically for those changing snow conditions. Something about starting down in the transformed fjords and climbing up into fresh powder or something. Around here it gets a lot of use on the manmade snow loops. I hear the application is the trick. It's a dab ...

Seeley Classic 2017

I did the short race this past weekend. The weather turned out great and the trails were in perfect condition. My race report can be found here: http://www.cyclova.com/2017/01/mullins-seeley-hills-classic-race-report.html A great discussion on the waxing can be found on the Midwest Nordic Facebook g...

Re: 2017 PreLoppet

So many reasons why my spreadsheet is total bogus. Good 20k speed, always bonk the 50k... Sick that day... Terrible skis... Actually getting faster or slower... Crashed... Had the race of your life...

I gotta do something to keep me thinking about skiing when I'm not training.

Re: 2017 PreLoppet

Thanks for the report Jay. In case you wanted my rock solid statistical analysis (full sarcasm mode on there if you read the conclusions in my race report)... when I run the PreLoppet through my spreadsheet you slip into last year's Birkie at 2:38:16... 199th Male just 5 seconds ahead of the Elite W...

Re: Spills and thrills

Lots of various spills that left me bloody. Took a header one time and landed on hands and ended rolling my hand under my chest and broke my fifth metatarsal. That sucked. I had a 10km ski back to my car and then drove myself to the ER instead of back to work like I was supposed to do after my "...

Re: Where do you rollerski?

I roller ski in a variety of places, but all previously known to me so I don't get surprised. Various Rural Roads: Afton MN is a hot spot of local roller skiing. Relatively low traffic roads, good pavement, good hills. You also happen to ski past Jessie Diggins' house and she might say high to you r...

Re: SISU 2017

It was cold, windy, snowing, and slow. But fun. I liked the changes to the course. I wouldn't have wanted to do another 10k Saturday anyhow, but aside from that the course flowed well and not jumping to 42k for the first big race was nice. http://www.cyclova.com/2017/01/mullins-sisu-race-report.html

SISU 2017

Anyone else headed up/over/down to Ironwood MI this weekend for a chilly start to the Midwest marathon circuit? Not too much debate on the weather and subsequent wax conditions for the weekend so I'm already working on hardening my bases. Thinking about getting another layer of windstopper for the t...

Re: Anyone skied yet?

So what was the wax of the day Jay?

I was out at the Solstice Chase Fat Bike Race volunteering. Thinking of some super squeaky classic skiing tomorrow afternoon when the temp peaks at around -5F.

Re: Anyone skied yet?

Finally got out skiing yesterday and again this morning. There has been skiable snow within day trip distance of Minneapolis/St.Paul, but I haven't had the opportunity yet. The local downhill place FINALLY opened up to nordic early morning on Sunday for the first time this year. Right in the middle ...

Pretty cool to see her skiing around Afton a few weeks ago just like us master blasters and then see her win a race against the best in the world!
