Re: crazy rain race at TdS -- another near 30kmh ave!

What a disaster of a race. I like to think of ski racing as being mostly "fair," meaning the strongest win or at least do quite well. It seems like some strong skiers did not do well. A question, are the Russians not well liked in the group? I sensed something extra going on during the rac...

I figure it's because my right arm is stronger.

Re: Is your stride equal on both legs?

Jay, I assume you are left-handed and right-footed. Is that correct? Yes, but if I'm going to carry something heavy, I'd use my right hand. I play golf right handed. One thing I've noticed is that I wax opposite direction to everyone else, brushing left to right. I assume that has something to do w...

Re: Anyone skiing yet?

Still waiting for snow here. There is just enough snow to ski on the golf courses with rock skis. If you're careful and know the course (and cart paths) you can get by without damage. The cold weather has been good for snow making.

Re: Is your stride equal on both legs?

In classic, I can't tell the difference between sides. When I'm bounding, I start with my left foot forward, and I assume I resume striding with the left foot forward, but I've never noticed. For skating, V1, most of the time I feel more comfortable with my left hand uphill. There are times when I'm...

Re: Too Cold to Ski?

In MPLS, it rarely gets below -15F, so you mainly have to worry about the wind. After a snow storm, the winds can be pretty strong for a day or two. That's when you head for the woods. I was up in NW WI last week, and it got down to -28F one night. I classic skied late afternoon before that low (at ...

Re: Cold winter this time?

Raining really heavy right now. It's supposed to cool off so I'm hoping they can make snow this week. Maybe I can get on snow this weekend.

For the US readers, there's a pretty amazing documentary called Icarus featuring the Russian director, Rodchekov. It's on Netflix.

Re: Cold winter this time?

Duluth is a great area for skiing and has a good core of skiers, but you're right that winter is not like it used to be. We typically had Thanksgiving skiing somewhere...Giant's Ridge, Birkie Trail, Duluth, maybe even the Twin Cities. It always seemed deer hunting season was perfectly mistimed in WI...

Re: Russian doping? -- (try again, on topic)

I haven't read all the materials, but it sounds like: -Dr Rodchenkov was director at the Moscow laboratory which was used for testing during the Sochi Olympics -He gave very damning testimony about systematic Russian doping. Part of his credibility was a diary he kept that gave great detail. Part of...

Re: Cold winter this time?

Last year we skied and raced on a few km of artificial snow. Same thing the year before that. Today I rode my motorcycle to work, it that gives you any idea of our weather. Of course there were a couple snowfalls when you could ski for a week or two, and that meant I put less miles on the car. Up no...

Re: Russian doping? -- (try again, on topic)

Still just one guy and his notebook AFAICT. (who writes a diary of his crimes anyway?) He could easily have done the scraping too. Seems incredible it's all based on him. The potential for abuse and political shenanigans if something as big as this can be based on one person's involvement is massiv...

That is no summary of the rules but the decision of the IOC Disciplinary Commission where paragraphs 422 and 423 show the lack of methodological stringency I mentioned earlier. 1. It's a 46 page summary. 2. The rules begin on page 10 (that I was paraphrasing) Please explain how paragraphs 422 and 4...
