MN-MPLS

It's been unusual in that this fall seems fairly normal for 20 years ago. So, we got about 2-3 inches of snow overnight and the high temp today was something like 22F. It's really the cold temps that are allowing the various areas to make snow quickly. So the Birkie Trial, Mora (I assume), Mount Ita...

Re: Road rage against rollerskiers

In past years, Jessie has skied with her coach (Jason) who was on a bike. This year, no Jason and it seems she's in town longer. I'm not sure why that is or if it's just my imagination. Yesterday I hopped out of the car, set down my skis, looked up and Jessie skied by. She's been doing some talks or...

Re: Road rage against rollerskiers

I saw Jessie and her former coach on that day (last Sunday). This is where we rollerski ever weekend sometimes Sat and Sun, and other junior groups are out there training as well, so the area sees rollerskiers all the time. We used to have such a problem with the drivers who got out of church that w...

Re: Plough braking on rollerskis

There are variations on this method to brake, but it become really hard to do as the speed increases. So at about 25 mph, you don't dare do anything but go straight.

Re: Birkie: does Classic wave start first?

For the first half of the race, the classic race has a separate course. When I was finishing about 100th in the skate race, we’d catch the leaders of the classic before Mosquito Brook. No problem with the two techniques meshing, but maybe it’s more of a problem further back in the race. (I.e. with s...

Re: American Birkie 2018

Thanks, and yes, I had to avoid that hole. Last week there was a branch to avoid, but the cars ground that to powder. That’s about all the harder I can go. It was the last interval, so I can see that I’m tired and trying to extend the glide. I’m also switching to what we call open field and V1 earli...

Re: Classic vs Skate Roller Ski Tracking

The tool shown is a better way of simply putting a straight edge along the side of both wheels. There’s usually millimeter or so of slop in the fork holes so you can very slightly align skis. So I’d suggest using a straight edge next to the the wheels and then hold the ski and straight edge up to li...

Re: American Birkie 2018

Everything seems to be behind this year. So I’m late in starting intervals. I did my second set last weenend with a friend who was wearing a GoPro. This is the last of three 9 min uphill intervals. (So I’m tired.) He’s younger and stronger, so he passed me near the end. For those interested: https:/...

Re: la Feclaz rollerski track, French Bauges

That's so foreign compared to here in the US. It's great to see facilities like that. For comparison, we rollerski on Sundays as a group on local roads. Today was classic, but after about 2:30, my foot was hurting, so I switched to skate. Anyway, about 42 km total. After I say that's dedicated trail...

Re: A weekend with Marie Dorin

I read this a while ago and never commented. I think this is probably the best post EVER in this group. Thanks for posting. Also, you posted photos. That almost never happens.

Re: American Birkie 2018

Just a little follow up. Had an ablation March 24th. I was surprised how much the general anesthesia kicked my ass. I took a month off and started skiing very easy and couldn't even go slightly hard. Yeah, we had some spring snow, so I was trying to ski in the hills and yet go easy, which meant walk...

Pretty sure it's Whitefish, the one with a little patio outside. We stopped for ice, wifi, and a couple groceries.

Re: Just a winter pic

Hey Jeff, I think I ran into a friend of yours back July 1st or so at the Super One. He was probably 70 years old and riding a classic old green Bianchi. I'm trying to remember, but I think he was heading to Canada for a big ride and wanted to get in some miles that day for prep. (It rained that day...
