Re: Spoiler Alert! Women's Skiathlon

Kalla obviously has great form. She had good form at the beginning of the year too, which is interesting. I usually think that a peak is hard to hold, so she must have has some great off season training. She also had good skis. The Swedes nailed it (skis) a Sochi, and it seems they're doing it again...

Re: Visma Ski Classics: Toblach-Cortina

Even skiers at the World Masters (old dudes) were double poling the course....and doing quite well.

It's a hilly course. I can't imagine doing a workout dp'ing the course. DP'ing a race...that's some serious strength.

Re: Russian doping? -- (try again, on topic)

This reminds me of Lance Armstrong. Not one positive and they took his TdF wins. No due process.

Re: Nordic Ski World Championships

My first thought when reading the OP was, "Where would you hold it?" (in the US). I heard some negative comments on Soldier Hollow this year and found this: https://utaholympiclegacy.org/soho-events/?month=2018-01 I think it's hard to find sites that have consistent snow (and probably snow...

Re: Skate ski camber and slipping on push off

Each year I try to demo skis just to keep track of what's going on with skis on the market. Sometimes I take out skis and the front end slides out on me. You could argue it's my technique, but I think it's also something about the skis. I've also had this happen with one of my pairs in unusual condi...

Watched the Women's 10k last night. Jesse was really impressive. Wise racing and lots of power on the last climb.

Great performance.

It sounds like you believe these athletes did not use performance enhancing drugs.

Re: Would-be Olympic skier from Tonga

I think that skiers should have to go through qualifications for the Olympics. So the normal countries on the world cup, organizers have a good idea how fast their skiers are. If a county doesn't participate in the World Cup or even international races, there should be some type of qualification. Th...

Re: crazy rain race at TdS -- another near 30kmh ave!

What a disaster of a race. I like to think of ski racing as being mostly "fair," meaning the strongest win or at least do quite well. It seems like some strong skiers did not do well. A question, are the Russians not well liked in the group? I sensed something extra going on during the rac...

Re: Is your stride equal on both legs?

Jay, I assume you are left-handed and right-footed. Is that correct? Yes, but if I'm going to carry something heavy, I'd use my right hand. I play golf right handed. One thing I've noticed is that I wax opposite direction to everyone else, brushing left to right. I assume that has something to do w...

Re: Anyone skiing yet?

Still waiting for snow here. There is just enough snow to ski on the golf courses with rock skis. If you're careful and know the course (and cart paths) you can get by without damage. The cold weather has been good for snow making.

Re: Is your stride equal on both legs?

In classic, I can't tell the difference between sides. When I'm bounding, I start with my left foot forward, and I assume I resume striding with the left foot forward, but I've never noticed. For skating, V1, most of the time I feel more comfortable with my left hand uphill. There are times when I'm...

Re: Too Cold to Ski?

In MPLS, it rarely gets below -15F, so you mainly have to worry about the wind. After a snow storm, the winds can be pretty strong for a day or two. That's when you head for the woods. I was up in NW WI last week, and it got down to -28F one night. I classic skied late afternoon before that low (at ...
