Re: Backcountry Ski Choice for a Big Guy....

You might want to ask over at the TelemarkTalk forum--lots of discussion about these fatter bc skis there. I have Madshus Epochs and 3pin cables that I use for bc touring/turning, and trail skiing when the snow is deep (Colorado, so it's deep often). They don't track as well when kicking and gliding...

Re: Eon or BC 70

I think the BC70 would track better on packed out snow (snowmobile tracks, groomed areas) because it has less sidecut and it stands a better chance of fitting in groomed tracks (thought it probably won't). Unless you want to do telemark turns, the Eon may have more sidecut than you need. My wife has...

I discovered both TelemarkTalk and this forum in the last couple of months. I've been researching some ski purchases, both a lite tele set up and a backcountry XC set up. Bottom line is that even for XC topics, TelemarkTalk is much more active, has a lot more info/threads. I consider myself more of ...

Do you really need metal edges? Maybe not. Certainly not for groomers and I've been able to do some pretty advanced trail skiing on my edge-less alpinas. Is NNN adequate to push around a heavy backcountry ski? (Let alone for Telemark?) When I got my E99s (many years ago), I was under the impression...

Upgrading from a basic touring ski

I have a pair of Alpina Solution touring skis that are about 5 years old. I bought them to take advantage of occasional snow where I lived back then, but now I live in Colorado and am doing a lot more skiing. So I've been shopping. I already bought some BC skis for telemark-oriented BC tours (Madshu...

Try asking and researching in the telemark talk forum at telemarktips.com. Souonds like you're a BC skier so maybe you know that site already. There's quite a few people over there with good advice about "XCD" gear. I just bought Madshus Epochs, with 3pin cable bindings, and kicker skins. ...
