Crust skiing is awesome!!! Me and the kids can't wait, looks like it's starting to form this week (West Central Wis.). Kids have off school Friday, and you can bet we'll be checking out the golf course in the a.m. to see if it's crusted and ready to hold. It's like having a perfectly groomed trail -...

Ken, great job - like I said, a finish in the top 200 is a victory for us vets. What do you mean "if" you come back?? You'll be back...Next year, don't let a founder beat you either ;) (no disrepect, Dave is an awesome skier!) Hey, I just counted 42 first and second wave skiers that made t...

I enjoyed reading Jays account of the race - Thanks! The race went smoothly for me, skied it very conservatively since it was double my longest ski of the year. Just got in a pack of guys going my pace, and ran with them until the end. Nice to finish still feeling good, I'm not going to win this thi...

Adam Loomis is a talented skier, was a member of my team HS this year (Chippewa Valley Nordic), but since all the jumping events are on weekends, didn't race XC, and only practiced skiing with us during the week. He competed earlier this month in an Austrian NC Continental Cup event, flew back for t...

All else fails, try and find some Start Grip tape. It's pretty universal, just make sure you start short, and add more length if it's needed. If it's dragging (noticible glide lost), you need it shorter, or need to adjust the location of the kick zone. In any case, make sure someone (ski shop) marks...

test report on Atomic WC skate boots

OK, field test report - have skied with them several times, and I have to say they are very nice. Excellent control, skis go where you want them to. Also, I really like the fact the ankle collar flexes backward, as well as forward. I've never really warmed up to the energizer heel brace on the Salom...

I have a friend who is in the final stages of development of a binding like this. Do not need any other type of binding, but will mount directly to the ski and be a performance type binding for use with trail shoes/boots. I do like the adapter idea alot too, have to pass that on his way. Not sure of...

Boots: Atomic World Cup Skate 09/10

I just got a pair of the new Atomic WC Skate boots, black with white trim. Upgraded - or - modernized from my Salomon silver bullet boots of several seasons ago. I haven't skied on them yet, hoping to this weekend. They look really cool, carbon heel wrap, and same sole as the Salomon S-lab boots. I'...

Wisconsin State Trails Survey

Got this in the mail recently, and thought I'd post the message here for all the wisconsin state trail users to check out: Hey All: If you have an opinion concerning the uses allowed on state trails (e.g.. motorized vs. non-motorized, bikes vs. horses, feet vs. hands, you get the picture) now's you ...

Wow, lot's of discussion and disection here...a few thoughts pop into my head... Smoothness, fluidity, whatever you want to call it, seems to be a common trait I notice in all good skiers. Combine it with strength, power and endurance, and you are a long way there. Some people are born with it, some...

Gregg, Hard to tell a lot from short vids, lots of variables (slope, snow speed), but I agree with all of Jays observations. I would agree that you are not using your core/abs. enough for polling - lean out over your poles too - the first 1/3 of your polling should be all abs and upper body weight, ...

I ditto DMK's thoughts - Toko moly, covered by HF Blue, but with Swix FC7 rotocorked over it was fast. Same experience with outgliding on the hills throughout the race. Skis had a uni-cold grind. Though my skis were fast, my motor was definately lacking. I struggled with fitness and health issues th...
