Early winter here in NW Montana....BUT!

Ruptured my L4-5 disc two weekends ago. Saw neurologist yesterday. Said it was probably just a weakness from 64+ years of activity that gave out. Other than that the MRI showed that my back was better than a lot of 30 year old patients that they see. I have a dull ache in the upper left quad muscle ...

Re: Birkebeiner Course Info

I agree, Ben has been pretty up front with his assessment. Like Jay said, they are going to do something which will be determined by Mother Nature. That is fair enough for me. I will stay home and watch the US ladies in the World Champ skiathalon on Saturday via livestream and then take my granddaug...

Re: Birkebeiner Course Info

Pulled the plug today on flight and rental car. Not interested in running, and while the party sounds like fun, it is not worth dropping another $1,000. That purple bib is not getting any closer.

Re: 2016 Birkie

I am breaking down this year and having BNS wax my skis. I think I have the "cold" Birke pretty dialed in, but I do not have a full compliment of waxes at the warmer end of the world and BNS is doing the full Monty this year all the way up to topcoat and structure. I usually work off of th...

Re: Anyone Skiing Yet?

Would be skiing for the first time this weekend except for the remnants of a head/chest cold I managed to acquire. Two areas are grooming here, both above 5,000'. Marginal snow here in the valley. We are definitely in a moisture pattern here and it is supposed to turn colder as the week progresses. ...

Re: Bikebeinerrennet 2015

Watched it on NRK. Therese Johaug settled the matter rather quickly in the women's race. The men's race was pretty interesting with the two double polers vs. Sundby. The race is definitely on my bucket list. I am 61, so I guess I have plenty of time based on the Old guy you mentioned.

Re: Birkie 2015

Birkie number nine for me-wave 3 skate trying to get back in wave 2. Staying healthy is so important. I have two granddaughters that are literally germ factories during the winter. I have skied the last two Birkies with mild and heavy chest congestion from colds I caught from them--not optimal when ...

Re: Airlines and Ski Wax

Ralph In nine years of flying to the Birkie I have never had any problem with waxes, but I always have them in a checked bag. That is flying out of Kalispell though. TSA is used to seeing a lot more skiers there than Great Falls would be. Skiing has been great in the Flathead lately after everyone g...

Re: Lillehammer

Just finished watching the men's race on NRK. Sundby was pretty amazing when he turned on the afterburners on that last hill. The women's race had a great duel at the end between Bjørgen and Johaug. Tough weekend for the US.

Re: Looking for advice on goggles/sunglasses for skate skiin

I wear contacts when I ski and also have that drying out problem. I bought the Casco shield about four years ago. It came with a grey, clear and amber lense and I wear them always when I ski. It never fogs. The newer version comes with a photo grey lense. I am thoroughly happy with them. There a lot...

Re: Why does US/Can win sprints but not distance?

I stand corrected, I was going off memory on the Ruka triple, but 1st place is even better. As the fastest racer in that World Cup race he won $5,000 (Euros(?). I do not know if he stood on a podium but that tells me he won that race. Martin Johnsrud Sundby who finished first won the Ruka Triple and...

Re: Why does US/Can win sprints but not distance?

Noah Hoffman has had the second fasted time of the day in the skate portion of two pursuit races this year, one at the Tour de ski and I think the other was at the Ruka Triple. That is a podium in my mind.
