Re: Stride Tempo in Classic

No easy answer as cadence varies with terrain, snow speed, wind, intensity (distance vs sprint) etc. Running doesn't have glide, so it is difficult to compare.

This point is important, specially as the lower fall temps cause many road surfaces to become harder.

Re: Skating binding systems NNN vs SNS

In general boot fit is tighter within a brand as you go up the performance ladder. Lower end and touring type boots are wider and high end racing boots are narrower.

The above, plus weight is much more important than height when selecting skis.

Re: Flying to the Birkie

For glide wax you may want to utilize the services of a place like Boulder Nordic Sport. However, I would have my own kick waxes with me or plan on buying on site so that the skis can be kick waxed or adjusted race morning.

Re: If waxing an issue for USST, format that uses less wax?

If you had to pick one block of fluro or one bottle of liquid to rub over a Hydro base or LF wax ,what would you buy to cover most conditions and get faster ski's ? C22 block. Besides the block being more universal, you should be able to get considerably more applications out of the block than the ...

Re: Double Poling - Classic vs. Skating: Subtle Differences?

There is no easy answer to this now. What elite skiers are doing this year is significantly different from what they have done a few years ago. Right now it is a bit of guess where this will end up. It is partially dependent on what could happen with rule changes.

For me with standard Marwe wheels it is about 50% faster classic roller skiing than if I was going to run the same route

They seem to work well for the high school and middle school students I coach. Those are the boots I recommend to them since they seem to offer the most bang for the buck at present.

Re: Skate Skis: Does Length Matter? (to a certain extent…)

Length and stiffness aren't directly proportional for classic or skate. For example you can get a 186 skate ski that is stiffer than a 192 in the same model of ski.

To answer your question, I view length as having a significant degree of skier preference.

The only difference between a Fischer binding and a Rossignol binding of the same type i.e. Exercise, Xcelerator etc is the sticker put on the binding.

Re: Broken Carbide tip

I'm not fond of the Exel roller ski ferrules. The heat treat or the material composition is off and I tend to chip the metal on them when I ski hard. The ones I bought recently are a few years old, so maybe they have been improved since.

Re: Combi vs skate boots?

There are people who prefer to skate in a skiathlon (combi) boot to a skate boot. If there are any demo days near you, that would be a good place to find out what you like best.
