Re: What made you start XC skiing?

Started in the late seventies with wood touring skis when the boom started. Two years later followed a couple of buddies to do the Birkebeiner and fell under the spell of Tony Wise...as they say the rest is history, have been skiing and racing for 40 years. Now wonder about the future of the sport d...

Re: Pre-Birkie 2015

No rest for the wicked....go 42. Seriously, it depends on your base training. If you have plenty of KMs in the long race two weeks before is good. If your training has been skimpy you might opt for the shorter race.

Re: Ultimate gear geekness: skis for beach skating

I used short skis...the shorty peltonens that came out a number of years ago and they worked fine. Actuall did it on the same beach as Koch in Maui. Fine sand is the key. Ski on the wet sand just after the wave recedes. I found classic a little better than skate, but both worked. Harder on the boots...

all a matter of fit.....I have a pair of RCSs from 1993 that I still race on....start green fluoro. Nothing wrong with last year's models provided they fit you.

Re: How far did you ski this Winter?

About half of a normal year. In SW Michigan we had three or so 8 to 12 inch snowfalls (mostly lake effect) that would each last about a week. Few trips up north for races and marginal snow kind of rounded out the year. I did more rollerskiing at below freezing temps than I care to admit. All that sa...

Houghton....December 99% of the time....Traverse City 90% in December.....this year was one of the few exceptions, although there was snow, but marginal conditions mostly on golf courses.
