12/12/10 conditions at Levis Mound

Started grooming in a blizzard around 5:00am Saturday. Used the Grizzly pulling our new leveling drag to flatten out some of our bumpy trails. It pulled a ton of snow, but I figured it was de-airing and turning it over, so all was good. We had about 5" Of new snow to work with. The drag worked ...

Where were all the skiers today? Predicted cold didn't happen, so we had a nice sunny mid teen day and about the most perfect snow ever here. Skate lane was beauty corduroy and tracks looked hard. Snow hangin on trees-just beautiful!

XC Ski Grooming forum

Here is a great XC ski grooming forum:
http://s8.zetaboards.com/snowgroomingtalk/forum/7354/

This site is all about snow grooming-mostly ski hills and Snowmobiles, but they started a section just for XC.

(Wis) 2010 Levis Mound

The trail has been groomed almost every day since Christmas and conditions could hardly be better. CLassic tracks are a bit shallow in places, but overall very good. Skate lane is awesome! Perfect corduroy everywhere. Two sets of wolf tracks crossed the Flatlander abd Moundbounder trails-what massiv...

Levis Mound

12" of snow last week has set us up with a great base! Too bad the antlerless season kept skiers off the trail (It was officially closed) but as of today (Monday) we're open for business! Excellent conditions for skate and stride.

Friday the 13th

Still have snow here-rocket fast snow! Wow! 80 % of the trail base is really good-pleanty of snow to till up and skate on. The rest is a mixture from a south facing melt, some ice, some frozen slush. Luckily, these sections are very short-mostly near or under pines. Groomed up some of the trails thi...

Yep-waxes cost some money, and the floros can really put a pinch in your wallet. I remember years ago, when Cera F first came out-we thought how in the heck can someone spend that kind of money on wax??? But, to put it into perspective, that Cera F layer costs maybe $10.00 or so per pair, and I sure...

Interesting question, but I'm sure the replies will be as varied as everyones wax kit. I've been mostly a swix user in the past-all my racing days, but they've always had a full line of waxes and updates with new stuff along the way. (always had start green in my kit tho!). Just returned from the Sp...

Jan 17-18th

Great skiing here this weekend. Just kept slowly snowing all day Saturday, so good thing the earlier in the week snow had been groomed. Beauty day! Sunday-fresh re-grooming, super tracks set and skate lane was firmed up by noon. Couldn't have been better skiing.

While you can skate on classic gear, it's probably best to learn on skate specific skis/boots/poles. :-) I agree-when we started skating in '87, it was on classic gear and we just couldn't figure out HOW they did that....for more than a 100 yards at a time. Short poles, long noodily skis, low boots...

I don't see how skating on groomed trails could be 100 times as fun as crust skiing. It's maybe 1/2 as fun. Crust skating anywear and everywear is the crown jewel of skiing-I live for those very rare days in March when you can ski rocket fast everywhere dodging trees and no need for the trail. I'd ...
