Wipe On Summer Storage Wax?

I'm late to the party, but am trying to get my skis ready for (already here) summer storage. I've got a few pairs of skis with metal edges and have always found it a pain to try to use an iron them. I was thinking of cleaning the base and then using some sort of cheapo liquid wax as a storage wax. W...

Toko Gripspray

I've heard two anecdotal reports that Gripspray serves as a grip wax that functions between hard wax and klister. Anyone have experience with these? Thanks, Jon (And to be clear, I'm not talking about the green base wax, but the different "colored" gripsprays that "work in all ski con...

Re: Double-Poling without Irritating Lumbar Spine Issues?

Haven't been to PT in a while, so that's a helpful reminder. Interesting observation on the heels--I always thought it was inefficient too and that's why I asked him specifically about it after I saw his heels lift off the ski. It was relatively fast conditions, but I"m sure I saw the rear of h...

Re: Double-Poling without Irritating Lumbar Spine Issues?

I had a chance to take a Skate clinic with Kris Freeman yesterday and asked him about this issue. He said as one of the older guys on World Cup, his back gets sore and so he's not surprised that me being older than him, I'm having issues (he thought my technique wasn't causing issue.) Otherwise, he ...

Re: Double-Poling without Irritating Lumbar Spine Issues?

P.s., for Osloskier: I see that Ubersense has a website where your videos get uploaded. Is there a sharing function and have your fellow Norwegian skiers uploaded any sort of "template" videos to Ubersense, to be used in side-by-side comparisons?

Thx, Jon

That's a helpful cue to use. Wouldn't you also say there's a step before this one where your applying your body weight and power of core to poles on landing?

Re: Double-Poling without Irritating Lumbar Spine Issues?

rilo: Thanks a lot for the thoughts. My lumbar definitely feels better when I do the quick compact version of double poling (which I think of as the "new" style), but I think the old-school skier in me keeps feeling guilty that I'm not working hard enough, so I instinctively add in more co...

Double-Poling without Irritating Lumbar Spine Issues?

I've been finding double-poling increasingly aggravating of a lumbar spine issue. Can anyone point me to tips on how to mitigate this?

Thx in advance, Jon

Re: Tracking watch - Garmin

Just a mention--if I were in this market, I'd seriously consider an Android watch. Both of the major athletic tracking apps for Android phones already have apps for the watches, and the one I like will be coming out with an app to actually view topo or ski trail maps on the watch. How cool is that?

Re: Fischer SLP Polysint: a sandpapery nowax?

I had these and thought they worked well in same conditions "zero" skis work. You can use different grits of sandpaper to rough up the polysint material to get different levels of kick. You can kick wax over the insert material if you want, but then they're no different than a conventional...

Re: How much "slop" should there be in ratchet of classical

Thanks for feedback. My experience with these skis is sort of turning into an ordeal, but I just wanted to ask one follow-up question. I did get some replacement wheels from (kindly) distributor, and based on what I read in old Jenex literature, I tightened mounting screw as much as I could with lon...

How much "slop" should there be in ratchet of classical ski?

I've been having problems with a Ski-Go carbon classic ski. The ratchet slips sometimes, and even when it doesn't slip, it just feels like it has a lot of "play" so that it takes a little bit of rotation before it catches. I compared it to an old Jenex ratched wheel, and the Jenex is much ...

Re: Salomon RC Skins Revisited

Here's feedback for anyone interested. The RC skins have an optional set of skins available for racing. Report is that it makes for a very fast ski. Interestingly, it sounds like the racing skins are not just smaller surface-area versions of the regular skins, but actually a different material that ...
