Re: steep waddle-oriented last stage?

Tour de Ski last hill you mean? Yeah it's not pretty, but satisfying to see pro skiers struggling like myself.. :D

Re: wow so many Russians at front!

This is how it's always been. Russia (well Soviet union, same thing) always been right up there. Reeling after the doping allegations, but bouncing nicely back now. Oil oligarchs (LukeOil) sponsoring the world cup team, and government programs at lower level. Lots of coaches, main one is German (Cra...

Re: Stadium Biathlon

Almost 50 000 people for an indoor sporting event is crazy on any scale, but biathlon is simply one of the most popular sports in Germany, almost on par with Formula 1 as the second biggest after football I believe. But it's the same in other countries. TV viewing figures are very impressive all ove...

Re: World's most eager skier?

Tom's season started October with some trips higher up, but now that this pond closer to Oslo froze over and got some snow mid-November, he did the 650 meter loop around it 30 times for a 25 km 'trip'. Since then there are normal tracks open for 'stone skis' so that's what he's doing now. https://ww...

Re: Cold winter this time?

Yes still nothing after the first fall, and without 'stone skis' haven't dared to venture out yet although there are tracks open. I used a whole a Sunday this fall to clear a track of the worst stones so that I wouldn't need much snow, but I think this layer of 20-25 cm is just bit too thin with so ...

Re: Pole length

Cutting yourself is not that big of a deal either. Just put the handles in a pot of boiling water for a couple of minutes to melt the glue and they should pull off easily. Then cut to desired length with a metal saw, and melt some hot glue to smear around the top and push the handles back. (I use ho...

Re: Pole length

Interesting topic. I have nothing to contribute except that you might even consider a length in between those two you mention. I got a pair 5 cm longer as I felt the first pair were too short, but those felt too long and after I cut them 2.5 cm down they felt just right.

Re: help -- how does biathlon get a pursuit aspect?

Yeah the classic to skate style (skiathlon) is continous, but just like you say there's talk of making it a two-day pursuit event which sounds good. Modern tracks are not as narrow as to be a problem with overtaking, but pursuit has been openly said to be about making exciting TV, just as why the ma...

Re: help -- how does biathlon get a pursuit aspect?

Yes, having a separate World Cup race within another World Cup race like they do with the best times in the XC pursuit is also slightly bizarre.

Re: Video of Petter intimidating rivals and 'pre-sprinting'?

He tried the Birken this year but was 24 minutes behind. Of course this was during training so he was not optimally prepared, but he's tried hard for 2 years to get in shape for the World Cup but seems his body is just worn out or something. And as he was only really motivated for big championship e...
