Skin ski experiences

Had a good long season on my skins (Salomon RC Equipe) in all conditions now, and: POSITIVE: 1. Of course not having to wax and all the mess that goes along with that. Cost of wax too. 2. Consistent grip. My usual course can on certain days have parts that require different waxes (cold shadowy part ...

Re: Cold winter this time?

Well here in Norway it's been a fantastic winter from early skiable snow, to big amounts and relatively stable temperatures which produced top tracks all over. They say it's the best winter for 12 years. To top it off, the Easter holiday had the most gorgeous weather although the risk of avalanche w...

Re: How to promote rollerskiing?

You're putting words in my mouth. I never said ANYTHING close to "uncool". Yes you did. You said it was about "the message". Something not relating to safety. Overall your comments are remarkable: you're in effect asking me if I like something, hearing me say "No" and ...

Re: How to promote rollerskiing?

I'm certain the odds of getting road rash or breaking bone out training on roller skis is far higher than out on a road bike. It's ironic you'd say that considering what happened to the founder of this site. The chance of severe injury is much greater on a bike than rollerskis. The speed is greater...

Re: How to promote rollerskiing?

I don't want to do an activity where this amount of protection is recommended. I don't think most people do. There is no way I am going to do an aerobic sport with that amount of equipment. Zero. Why? Just something as simple as biking can lead to pretty serious injuries. I'm quite sure most of us ...

How to promote rollerskiing?

It seems weird so few are rollerskiing, even in countries where XC is popular, so what could be done? I think one of the reasons it's not more popular is that it's seen as too dangerous. All the time one hear of accidents, even among the pros. I see in the classifieds rollerskis being sold with litt...

Re: A star is born (Johannes Høsflot Klæbo)

I said I wouldn't put up more results, but Klæbo's second season as a senior is just too remarkable not to. The season starts off with 5 straight World Cup wins, in sprint but also 30 km skiathlon (in Lillehammer, which is a really hard course). He then becomes Olympic champion in sprint, and relay ...

Re: Start skate skiing?

No the comparison is of course entirely valid. A combi whatever will never be as good as the dedicated one. Period. I don't need to justify it further. My entire recommendations here are based on going for the better package as this is training for competition. Whether I've tried a thing or not is c...

Re: Start skate skiing?

Nobody here has claimed that combi boots are as good for skating as skating boots, and that is not the point in my recommendation, but I and many others think they are good enough for both classic and skating which skating boots are not. And my recommendation is obviously that they are not. I don't...

Re: Start skate skiing?

@St. Steven: Not sure if Salomon have a dedicated rollerski boot, but Fischer and Alpine do. I have the Fischer and they are very comfortable and stable (even the boot itself is quite rigid). Before I got that, I used my normal padded winter boots and that can be extremely sweaty in summer so fair w...

Re: Start skate skiing?

What combi boots have you tried since you recommend against them? I don't need to try them when it's common sense that combis won't be as good as dedicated ones, but my wife has them anyway and they are even worse than what you'd expect with little support to speak of, just a flimsy plastic frame u...

Re: Start skate skiing?

I don't compete so wouldn't know what's best for that, but IMO skating is more fun so why not, it's anyway good balance training. But I would recommend against combi boots. In fact here is one area not to save as it should be as stiff as possible to avoid 'Bambi on ice' splayed feet which can take i...

Re: Elite racers and their gear

There are also athletes who have various issues like chronic shin inflammation for example (not uncommon for skating) and will try different solutions, maybe here the longer skis will help. Simon Fourcade and Henrik L'Abee Lund are two I know of that have this issue, and the latter had success with ...

Re: Rottefella Move System

So far I've seen no one in the World Cup using this system. I guess the seconds one might gain can be lost bending down, or it breaks up the rhythm too much.
