This video, although in French, illustrates some of Jeff's points,

Re: French national championships (rollerski)

Hey that's excellent. Excellent. Keep the coverage coming. As for Forcade being slow, it does seem there's a big difference between snow and rollerski speed. I think there's a talent to making skis glide on snow, but of course if he kicked ass in previous years and he's slow this year, that may be ...

French national championships (rollerski)

I was up in the Bauges this weekend and took some footage of the French national rollerski championships on the Feclaz circuit. Martin Forcade shot well but rolled in 11th! This shocked him a bit and there are questions about his preparation. He's never that quick on rollerskis - I don't think he li...

Re: Action cameras

As I've had all summer to think about this.

Get a cheap "dashcam" type camera that does loop recording.
Fit to helmet, maybe on the side.
Something like a Mobius would be ok, or a cylinder shaped cam or even the 808#16 keychain cam if you can secure it.

Saw the snow in Norway. In the Alps it is an Indian Summer although the Iseran pass was icy over the weekend.

This looks like a good way of getting road rash if you fall

Re: Autumn XC Skiing

You can see the XC trails here, right at the bottom of the glacier:- https://tignes.roundshot.com/grande-motte/ there was some fresh snow on the glaciers yesterday Glacier 3000 should also have XC skiing open https://www.glacier3000.ch/en/winter-sports/additional-winter-activities/cross-country-skii...

Re: Therese Johaug doped

The amount was consistent with a few applications on the lip, so that holds up, but I believe she was given the whole packet, not just the tube. I understand the steroid in question is used by female athletes in small doses to reduce body fat. Whether that makes much sense in the middle of the summ...

Re: Therese Johaug doped

Is it conceivable that an effective PED could be introduced via lip balm? If not, and it would be detectible, then the only reason to have it in the lip balm would be to commit a crime AGAINST the person using! ...Get them busted. More likely the lipbalm was an excuse for the PEDs found in Johaug. ...

Re: The danger of roller skiing

I'm always surprised how fast people go on rollerskis with zero protection, here the French team in the Bauges

I guess it is an adrenaline thing.

Sometimes it works out badly

Re: Roller Ski balance skills

But do you have good boots? Some boots and calf support seem way too soft to give much confidence. I would also say your protective gear is part of it, as I found that after getting proper knee and elbow pads I started to explore the limits more. I changed boots to Salomon carbon - I got some reall...

Tignes is the only place in France, they generally have a circuit for clubs in the autumn when they reopen in October.

Re: Hi from France

There are quite a few purpose built roller ski tracks now: In the Vercors at Villard de Lans (a lot of competition skiers train here in the morning like Forcade, Dorin, Weirer sometimes) In the Bauges at la Feclaz At the Col de Porte - short loop with biathlon area However there are the banks of the...
