Re: Fischer RC5 vs RC7 Skate Boots & CRS vs SCS Skate Skis

At almost $300 off (w/tax), I *highly* recommend the RC7 + SCS package. Both are a noticeable improvement in performance over their alternatives, and are a much better value long-term. Too bad MEC doesn't sell the RCR (or RCS). Being on the Salomon side, I always wondered why MEC never carried Salom...

Re: Marwe REPAIR needed

Try a two-part epoxy (Lowes/HD or West Marine), or PL Premium (comes in a caulking tube from Lowes/HD). Both glueing surfaces have to be very clean. Wipe up all squeeze-out from clamping -- and wear gloves.

These will cure *very* hard. If your want something flexible, Shoe-Goo might work.

Re: Reducing the flex possible?

Neuro, Clamp them together at the balance point for 24hours. It's a bit of a black art for sure. I'll dig up an older article from Zach Caldwell about how he went about clamping a ski he couldn't kick, with some success. I couldn't find it Googling. I have a pair of Fischer's with he same problem (t...

Re: Home test for skate ski flex?

Jeff, Without a flex tester, a skate-specific paper test might give you some answers... "...The camber pocket of a high quality skate ski is designed so that when force (100% BW to 120% BW) is applied to the ski, approximately 8 cm behind the balance point, as the height of the camber pocket decreas...

Re: Cold feet fix?

I had to Google when Salomon switched from RS10 soles to RS17. Looks like it happened for the 2010/2011 season. More info http://www.nordicskiracer.com/news.asp?NewsID=5275#.WH10EuvEirU As far as Toe warmers go, you can buy a 10-pack of Grabbers at Walmart. Just open the package and attach the adhes...

Re: walking sole accessory for ski boot?

I use some old totes (for dress shoes) that are about 1" high. Kept me upright many times--and save wear 'n tear on my boots.

Re: Cold feet fix?

Sounds like a fit issue (too small/too tight). I think other members have found more comfortable boots with wider lasts once switching from Salomon to NNN (IIRC Alpina, for example.). How old are your skate boots? The recent Salomon boots (RS17) are a marked improvement over their older boots (RS10)...

Re: Help on choosing the right type of gear

Cheryl, You're looking for an XCD ("cross-country downhill") ski--a bridge between the typical Nordic XC ski and a backcountry downhill-oriented ski. IIRC, Karhu was the first in the late 70's to offer XCD skis, but now all the major brands offer them, usually with full metal edges and waxless bases...

Re: Combi vs Classic Boot

Pat, I'm on my second pair of Salomon Pro Combis ('16/'17). My first pair from '09 have have a few thousand k's on them and the right toe separated from the sole (not uncommon on that generation). They can be re-glued. I have the same positive experience as Montana, the extra rigidity when out of th...

Re: Question about abrasive snow and choosing glide wax

You haven't mentioned what you've done to your bases prior to using the two Ski*Go hydrocarbons, but it sounds to me like they're under-prepped. Being familiar with some of the Ski*Go waxes, take a close look at these articles from Ski*Go/SkiWax.ca. I'd suggest printing them off and putting them int...

Re: Glide wax advice.

...In recent years, I've moved towards Fast Wax for the CH waxes mainly because I buy a kilo of white, blue and red at the end of the season for half price and it's cheap as hell. I still use Swix for the LF waxes (in 180 bricks). LF6 is a great wax. I mostly use LF4, LF6 and a little LF7. Now I ha...

Re: Glide wax advice.

That's fine however you wanted to make a point that Swix was the dominate brand and we are pointing out that this is not the case . Not at all, we've come to the agreement that a variety of no-name formula's from different brands are used for racing, but as far as what WC athletes keep in their box...
