Re: help -- how does biathlon get a pursuit aspect?

From the racer’s perspective, I get it. When I skied xc pursuits, the racers knew who won the first day and the second day, and even at the awards, they’d often mention that, but only give out awards for the combined. If they award the sprint, they really should award the pursuit separate from the s...

Re: help -- how does biathlon get a pursuit aspect?

Ok, I get it. There’s a sprint winner and a pursuit winner. So if you shoot clean in the sprint, you’ll likely have a good pursuit too.

Re: help -- how does biathlon get a pursuit aspect?

I can't for the life of me understand what's unfair about a pursuit. It's a two day competition, right. XC used to have it too (i.e. two competitions on two days, with one overall result). Golf plays 4 days. You could even point at a 7 game series like baseball or hockey as similar.

Re: Russian doping? -- (try again, on topic)

That's exactly what the FIS/WADA is doing. That's why the athletes are pissed.

Re: Your heritage?

I started bike racing at age 28 (as I remember, maybe I started skiing at 28). I took up skiing as cross training for cycling after a few years of riding through the winter. (Cold as hell some days.) My training partner was also a skier and got me out skating on some 210 classic skis I bought but ne...

Re: Your heritage?

There's no Nordic tradition in my family. I'm the only skier on either side. In fact, I'm the only "athlete" that I'm aware of. My Dad started swimming a mile 3x per week when he was middle age. He didn't look very pretty doing it (he wasn't a natural athlete), so it was quite a workout at...

Oh, here's a picture I took yesterday.

Those are marks from ice skates and the ice is thin, but there IS ice.

Re: Cold winter this time?

It's the opposite of last year here in Minnesota. So, it's been consistently cool (the normal of 20 years ago). A few snowfalls have gone through, particularly up north (again, like normal of 20 years ago). Right now: -2 km artificial snow in a normal suburb of Minneapolis -0.4 artificial snow (with...

MN-MPLS

It's been unusual in that this fall seems fairly normal for 20 years ago. So, we got about 2-3 inches of snow overnight and the high temp today was something like 22F. It's really the cold temps that are allowing the various areas to make snow quickly. So the Birkie Trial, Mora (I assume), Mount Ita...

Re: Road rage against rollerskiers

In past years, Jessie has skied with her coach (Jason) who was on a bike. This year, no Jason and it seems she's in town longer. I'm not sure why that is or if it's just my imagination. Yesterday I hopped out of the car, set down my skis, looked up and Jessie skied by. She's been doing some talks or...

Re: Road rage against rollerskiers

I saw Jessie and her former coach on that day (last Sunday). This is where we rollerski ever weekend sometimes Sat and Sun, and other junior groups are out there training as well, so the area sees rollerskiers all the time. We used to have such a problem with the drivers who got out of church that w...

Re: Plough braking on rollerskis

There are variations on this method to brake, but it become really hard to do as the speed increases. So at about 25 mph, you don't dare do anything but go straight.
