Re: American Birkie 2018

Everything seems to be behind this year. So I’m late in starting intervals. I did my second set last weenend with a friend who was wearing a GoPro. This is the last of three 9 min uphill intervals. (So I’m tired.) He’s younger and stronger, so he passed me near the end. For those interested: https:/...

Re: la Feclaz rollerski track, French Bauges

That's so foreign compared to here in the US. It's great to see facilities like that. For comparison, we rollerski on Sundays as a group on local roads. Today was classic, but after about 2:30, my foot was hurting, so I switched to skate. Anyway, about 42 km total. After I say that's dedicated trail...

Re: A weekend with Marie Dorin

I read this a while ago and never commented. I think this is probably the best post EVER in this group. Thanks for posting. Also, you posted photos. That almost never happens.

Re: American Birkie 2018

Just a little follow up. Had an ablation March 24th. I was surprised how much the general anesthesia kicked my ass. I took a month off and started skiing very easy and couldn't even go slightly hard. Yeah, we had some spring snow, so I was trying to ski in the hills and yet go easy, which meant walk...

Re: Just a winter pic

Pretty sure it's Whitefish, the one with a little patio outside. We stopped for ice, wifi, and a couple groceries.

Re: Just a winter pic

Hey Jeff, I think I ran into a friend of yours back July 1st or so at the Super One. He was probably 70 years old and riding a classic old green Bianchi. I'm trying to remember, but I think he was heading to Canada for a big ride and wanted to get in some miles that day for prep. (It rained that day...

Just a winter pic

http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb173/jw_photo_bucket/1D5A6908_zpskxlmmjxn.jpg A while back, Photobucket decided to make you pay for a subscription if you wanted to use their site to simply host photos. I'm doing a little test and it looks like Photobucket has given up on their old ways. Jay

WI-Birkie Trail

I've been seeing reports from the Birkie Trail and they've been killing me. Perfect conditions, fast snow, warm, no wind, no crowds. The problem is, after a few months off, I've been struggling to complete 1 hr workouts. Last weekend we got a snow storm. Our yard went from almost nothing to this: ht...

Re: Long distance racing, is it healthy? (article)

The doc looked at the EKG of the arrhythmia this week and said it was PACs (no problem). He also gave me the green light for workouts, so I've skied 4x this week. Yesterday I got there early enough (11 am) that the overnight grooming made for good conditions. Boy am I out of shape. The doc said that...

Re: Long distance racing, is it healthy? (article)

Thanks. We'll see how things go. I went out for a very slow ski on Sat, and thing didn't feel quite right. I also had some arrythmia that evening, but we're only a week and a day after the procedure. We got a bunch of snow today, so I'll probably try to do something tonight just to get out.

Re: Long distance racing, is it healthy? (article)

First off, I'm still learning a lot about the heart and have a lot to learn. When you start looking at a population of skiers, there's probably a few things that contribute to afib. It seems that getting in shape increasing vagal tone (and lowers HRs) and this promotes afib. (I think this is connect...

Re: Long distance racing, is it healthy? (article)

A follow up. Last Friday I had an ablation. It's called a pulmonary isolation ablation and the idea is to prevent electrical signals from the pulmonary veins from reaching the atrium, well right atria I believe. There are certainly risks, but the various things I heard made it sound pretty routine. ...
